MUSICAL INSTRUMENT.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY G. Lmmnur, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have in vented certain new and useful Improve ments in Musical Instruments, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in musical instruments and particularly relates to horns, eornets, bugles, trumpets and other wind instruments.
The object of my invention is to provide a deyiee which may be inserted into the bell of such musical instruments for the purpose of increasing the volume of sound emitted from the instrument and for correcting any defects in the tone and tune ot the instrument.
A further object of my invention is to provide means for adjustably securing the device in the bell of a musical instrument.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, in which like references refer to like parts: Figure 1 is a longitudinal section of the bell end oi. a horn or cornet showing my device inserted therein; Fig. 2 is a perspective view of'my improved sound increasing device,'as shown in Fig. 1, detached; Fig. 3 is a. view similar to Fig. 1 showing a different form of my device; Fig. t is an end view of the device as shown in Fig.3, detached; Fig. is a perspective view of a. still different form of my invention; Fig. 0 is a side elevation of a still diilerent' form of my device; Fig. 7 is an end view of Fig. 6; and, Fig. 8 is a longitudinal seet-ional view oi the bell end of a. horn showinga still different form of my invention inserted in the same.
My invention consists of the member 1, having wires 2 secured thereto,'which project beyond the end of the member 1 and are.adapted to be inserted into the hell end of a musical instrument 3, for holding the member 1. in its proper place in the curved or conical portion of the bell of the musical instrument.
The member 1 may be made conical. or hell shaped with-a eoncaved portion 5 at the rear end thereof as shown in Figs. 1 and 2. The niember 1 is inserted in the horn 3 and the wires 2 secured to said memher 1 are bent and adjusted so that they will hold said member 1 against one side of the hell 3 of the horn, as shown in Fig. 1

Instruments of different sizes and menu.- faeture require different forms of my sound-wave increasing device and some instruments require the device to be so placed in the bell thereof that the smaller air passageway will be termed at the top of the bell, as shown in Fig. 8, instead of at the bottom, as shown in Fig. 1. i
It is desirable to make the device sothat it vmay be adjustably secured in a born. The wires 27 attached to the member 1 are capable oi being bent to hold the member 1 in any desired position in the horn and said wires have suliicient rigidity to hold the member 1 tightly against the bell ofthe horn to prevent any vibration or rattling when the instrun'ient isv sounded.

Having thus described my invention I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. In a sound producing instrument having a horn, a sound wave dividing member consisting of a hollowtube having a portion of its inner end curved to conform with the cross section of the. horn and adapted to be held in contact with the inner surface tween .the tube and the inner sur ace of the horn and means for-adjustably holding said tube in said horn. v
. 2. In a sound producing instrument having .a horn, a sound wave dividing member consisting of a hollow tube having a portion of its inner end sha ed to conform with the cross section of theorn, said tube having a portion of the periphery of its inner end shaped to form a passagewa between the tube and the inner surface 0 the horn and wires secured to the inner end of said tube and projecting. therefrom for adjustably holding said member in the horn.
