Description
'etnica ,einer geirrt-@ities FRANCIS Boson', on sT. LOUIS, MICHIGAN, AssIcNonfTo HIMSELE` AND JOHN W. TAGKABURSL, 0F SAME PLAGE.
l y l Letters Patent .N 98,221, dated December 28, 1869.
IMPRQV'EMENT iN cnURN-DASHER.
The Schedulcrefen'ed to in thescyLett'exs Patent and` making part of the same..
To whom it may concern:
Its external drawings,)V by which it is supported in an upright po- Y,
Be it known that I, FnANoIs BosoM, of St. Louis, in the county ot Gratiot, and State 'of Michigan, have invented a. new and usei'ul Improvement in Churn- Dashers;v and I do declarethat the following is a true I and accurate description thereof, reierence being had to ihe accompanying drawings7 and to tbe letters of' reference marked thereon, and, being a part of this specification. A y
The nature of this invention relates to an improved method of constructing and operating ciuu'n-dashers; and consists in forming the dash ot' a single piece of springiwire, bent and coiled in the form ot' a truncated cone, and attached to the lower end of a tubular dash-rod; also, in connection therewith, the employ' ment ot' a metallic tube or cylinder, open at the top,`
and of less diameter than the dash-rod, which is vsleeved over it.
The cylinder rests on the .bottom of the churn, and is filled with a warm or cold iinid, to bring the cream being churned to the proper temperature;
In the drawingsk A represents thedash-rod, constructed in tubular form, of any suitable metal, iand provided at its lower end with a dange,a.
B is the dash, formed of a piece ofv spring wire, spirali y bent or coiled to the shape of a truncated cone, and secured at its apexq to the liange a of the dashrod.
C is a tube or cylinder of meta-l, open at its top, and provided with a tlangeior base, (not shown in the sition on the bottom D of thecburn.
diameter is lessA than the internal diameter ottbedash-rod.
The operation of this improvement is as follows: rlhe churn is filled with a sufficient amount ot' cream.
The cylinder C is then placed iu the churn. Ii' the te|n|n rature ot' the cream is too low, the cylinder is filled with warm'water to bring its temperature to the desired point. l1i' too high, cold watermay be used. The dasher is then introduced, by sleeving its handle on ythe cylinder, and is operated in tbe old way;A
The dash B, as it strikes the bottom of, the churn, compacts and brings together its coils, and'as the rod is lifted, they again expand, producing a greatagitation inv the cream, breaking up its globules, and thus ,render the separation of the particles of butter a task of easy and quick accomplishment. f.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure v by Letters Patent, is
1. The spirally-coled metallic dash' B, constructed substantially as described.
2. In combination with a dash B, secured yto a hollow dash-rod A, the employment ot', a cylinder, C, on which said rod is sleeved, for containing a liquid for regulating the temperature of tbe cream in tbe churn,
substantially as described.
