To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, CHARLES S. BARON and JAMES F. HAFEEY, citizens of the United States, residing at Tiliin, in the county of Seneca, State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Receptacle, of which the following is a specification.

It is the object of this invention to provide a device adapted to contain salt, talcum powder, and the like, the construction of the device being such that the cap and the bodyproper, although held securely together may, nevertheless, be readily separated.

Another object of' the invention is to provide a spring locking device of novel and improved form, adapted to hold together the cap and the body of a device of the character hereinafter described.

Another object of the invention is to provide a cap and a body, having elements which are adapted to be engaged by a spring locking device.

The body of the device is denoted by the numeral 1, and has, upon its interior, an outstanding shoulder 2, upon which the cap 3 is adapted to rest, within the contour of the body. The cap 3 is surrounded by an outstanding shoulder 4l, having oppositely disposed notches 5 therein. In the body 1, adjacent its upper end, there are open marginal seats 6, adapted to be brought into alinement with the notches 5 in the cap 3. The upper end of the body 1 is surrounded by a groove 7. A spring strip 8 is shown, the ends of which are inwardly bent to form fingers 9, and these fingers 9 are inserted in the body 1, within the contour of the groove 7 therein, so that the arcuate spring strip 8 is hingedly connected with the body 1. There are inwardly extended projections 10, formed by bending the spring strip 8, and these projections 10 of the spring strip 8 are adapted, when the spring strip is swung over so as to interlock with 'y the groove 7, to it in the notches 5, thus holding the cap 3 in place, both against dropping from the body 1, and against rotation therein.

If desired, the cap may be modified to the extent indicated in the form denoted by the numeral 11. In this cap 11, there are oppositely disposed notches 12, forming shoulders 14; in the cap. In this form of the invention, the spring strip 20 surrounds the body 1 entirely, the ends 15 of the spring strip being spaced slightly apart, to permit the strip to be sprung over the top of the body, toregister in the groove 7 therein. The projections 10 interlock in the notches 12 of the cap 11, the shoulders 14 coperating with the projections, prevent the cap from being shaken out of the body. Likewise, the cap is prevented from rotating in the body.

If desired, the spring may take the form denoted by the numeral 16, the same being a semi-circular structure, the ends of which are bent into co-axial relation, to extend toward each other, thus forming fingers 17, adapted to extend through the open marginal seats 6, to hold the cap 3 in place.

Gbviously, any of the common materials of construction may be employed for fashioning the body 1 and the cap 3; and many changes, properly falling within the scope of what is claimed, may be made, without departing from the spirit of the invention or sacrificing any of the advantages thereof.

It is of course obvious that there may be no notches in theYV cap to receive the pro- `truding lingers of the attaching spring.

Such a cap 31, provided'only with the out-- standing shoulder 4f, is shownin Figs. 7 and 8. Furthermore, the cap denoted by the numeral 30 in Fig. 9, may be employed, the cap being merely a flat disk, within the contour of the upper face of which the inwardly extended fingers of the spring locking device are adapted to extend, the cap resting upon the shoulder 2.

Having thus described the invention,what is claimed is 1. A device of the class described comprising a body; a cap therein; and a spring embracing the outside of the body and having spaced projections extended toward each other through open marginal seats in the body to engage the cap.
