Specification of Letters yatent.
Patented July is, 1922.
application filed September 13, 1W1. Serial 330. 500,407.
To all whom it may concern: Be it known that I, SVEND HANSEN, a c1t1- zen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented a new and use- 'ful Improvement in Bottle Caps; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the characters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description ofthe same, and which said drawings constitute part of 'thls application, and represent, in.

Fig. at a perspective view of the cork dlsk detached. This invention relates to an improvement in bottle caps, and particularly to bottle caps which areformed from metal and adapted to be clamped over the mouths of bottles. As commonly employed, a disk of cork is inserted into the cap to make a tight fit with the mouth of the bottle. In preparing these disks of cork, various materials are employed, which-sometimes have a deleterious efiect upon the contents of bottles and particularly in the case of bottled waters. To overcome this diiiiculty, a disk of tinfoil has been placed over the exposed'face o f-- the cork and secured thereto by some adhesive material, but in shipping, these disks are packed in barrels or boxes, and in handling many of the metal disks become detached, so that, whenappliedto bottles, the contents not only come in contact with the cork, but are contaminated b the material employed for securing the in place.
l The object of this invention is to provide a disk with prongs, by .which it may be firmly secured to the cork, so as to withstand the liability to damage in handling, and the invention consists in the construction as hereinafter described and particularly recited in the claim.
In carrying out my invention, I employ .a metal bottle cap 5 of usual construction,
which is adapted to be clamped over the mouth of a bottle. closely fitting therein, is a disk 6 of cork, and applied to the exposed face of the cork is a disk 7 of tinfoil formed on one side with integral prongs 8 which are adapted to pass through the cork and be cork and the inner face of the cap, so that the metal disk is firmly anchored to the cork and not liable to lie-detached therefrom; These disks are readily. formed and applied by automatic machinery, so that very little, if any, additional expense is involved; The metal disk is slightly smaller in diameter than the diameter of the cork, so that the cork comes in contact with the edge of the mouth of the bottle and securely closes the same.
I claim:
The combination with a'bottle cap of a cork disk located therein, and corresponding in diameter to svmm HANSEN.
