LOUIS WIPFLER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
ARG-LA1VIP CLEANER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 10, 1911.
Application filed March 31, 1910. Serial N 0,552,615.
T all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LOUIS WVIPFLER, a citizen of the United States, residing in New York city, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Arc-Lamp Cleaners, of which the following is a speclfication.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in arc lamp cleaners and more particularly to cleaners for cleaning the carbon dust from the burner end of the lamp, the object being to provide a cleaner which is so constructed that the same can be readily placed over the burner of the lamp in such a manner that by revolving the cleaner, the carbon dust will be removed and collected in the receptacle forming part of the brush, whereby the dust will be prevented from dropping or being inhaled by the operator of the cleaner.
A further object of my invention is to provide a cleaner which is exceedingly cheap and simple in construction and one in which the brushes are adjustably mounted to suit different sizes and styles of arc lamps.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a cleaner in which the brushes are mounted within a cylindrical receptacle having a handle for operating the same, said brushes being so arranged that when the vessel is placed over the lamp the brushes will remove the carbon dust which collects on the burner.
With these objects in view, the invention consists in the novel features ofconstruction, combination and arrangement of parts, hereinafter fully described and pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings forming a part of this specification:l igure l is a side elevation of my improved cleaner. Fig. 2 is a vertical section through the same. Fig. 3 is a top plan view. Fig. 4 is a detail horizontal section taken on line 44 of Fig. 2.
In carrying out my improved invention I employ a tapering cylindrical vessel A having an annular flange A and provided with tubular handle B having threaded bosses B, B in its opposite sides in which are mounted set screws 0 for the purpose later described. The bottom of the vessel A is provided with an opening which'communicates with an opening in the handle, and in which is mounted the handle D of a brush E which is locked in its adjusted position therein by the thumb-screw C, so that the same can be readily adjusted vertically, so as to throw the bristles of the brush any distance desired from the top of the vessel to suit different styles of lamps.
Openings are formed in the opposite sides of the brush in which are mounted eyes F provided with threaded shanks F carrying wing nuts F for clamping the handle portion G of brushes G therein-which normally rest against the inner face of the cylinder as clearly shown, and it will be seen by this construction the brushes G can also be adjusted. The brushes G are preferably formed of wire twisted together having the bristles secured therein by twisting the same, but it is of course understood that any other form of brush can be readily used if desired.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. An arc lamp cleaner comprising a handle carrying a vessel, a central brush adjustably mounted therein, and oppositely disposedbrushes adjustably mounted therein.
2. Anarc lamp cleaner comprising a handle having a collecting vessel mounted thereon, a central cleaning brush adjustably mounted within said vessel and secured in its adjusted position by thumb screws, and brushes mounted on the inner sides of said vessels.
3. An arc lamp cleaner comprising a handle having a vessel arranged at one end, said handle having an opening communicating with an opening formed in the bottom of the vessel and provided with threaded bosses carrying thumb-screws, a brush provided with a handle extending into the opening of the first mentioned handle and secured therein by said thumb-screws, eyes provided with threaded shanks mounted in openings formed in the sides of the vessel carrying thumb-nuts, and brushes mounted in said eyes.
