LEGGING.

Specification of Letters Patent.

Application filed. April 11, 1910.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, Isaac PILns, a citizen of the United States, resident of Yankton, in the county of Yankton and State of South Dakota, have made a certain new and useful Invention in Leggings; and I declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the invention, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of my invention as applied. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the legging with the adjustable parts drawn closely together for a small ankle. Fig. 3 is a similar view with the parts adjusted for a medium size ankle. Fig. 4; is a similar view with the parts adjusted for a large ankle. Fig. 5 is a plan view of the blanks for the sections of my legging. Fig. 6 is a similar view of the blanks for two of the legging sections showing the ridge formation. Fig. 7 is a section on the line 77, Fig. 6, on a larger scale. Fig. 8 is a similar View showing the fold in the legging for a small ankle. Fig. 9 is a similar view showing the fold in the legging for an ankle of medium size. Fig. 10 is a similar view showing the fold as spread for a large ankle.

The invention has relation to improvements in leggings primarily of the kind that are worn by sportsmen and others in rural communities and usually made of canvas, the object being to provide means for making the lower portion of the legging that fits around the ankle of the wearer of ad justable character for ankles of different sizes.

Other objects and advantages will hereinafter appear.

The invention consists in the novel construction and combination of parts as hereinafter set forth.

In the accompanying drawings, illustrating the invention, the letter a, designates my legging, which is composed of longitudinal sections 9, g, united by a longitudinal seam j, and havin' longitudinal lapping edges 6,6, provide with fastening devicesc, 0. At the rear of the legging, below the longitudinal seam uniting the sections, is provided an infoldable triangular-shaped portion (Z, the two halves cl, (Z, of which are designed to fold together along a central line e, neatly around the "ankle at the rear thereof, out of sight, said portion cl, having a fastening device 7", for its adjacent edge portions, located along the rear longitudinal edges of the legging sections. The legging sections when out from their patterns have integral lower oppositely extending triangular portions forming the two halves (Z, cl,

of the infoldable portion (Z, a seam j, unit ing said halvesalong the central fold line and being a continuation of the seam j, uniting the sections of the legging.

The fastening device f, which is shown as a lacing will allow not only a double adjustment for the legging when the portions cl, d, are folded inward out of the way for a small ankle, or when they are spread apart to encompass a large ankle, as shown in Fig. 10, but will also allow for intermediate adjustment for ankles of other sizes by the spread of the laces, as shown in Fig. 9, the

central fold along the seam being retained however. In this way the expense of manufacture of the legging is little if any increased, while its adaptation to fit neatly the ankle of the wearer is provided for.

Having thus described my invention,what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A legging composed of longitudinal sections having longitudinal edges provided with fastening devices, and a longitudinal .seamunitlng the sections, 1n combination with an infoldable lower triangular portion integral with the legging sections and having a central longitudinal seam continuous with said longitudinal seam of the legging sections.
