CONCRETE FENCE-POST.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J osnrrr HUBER, citizen of the United States, residing at Elma, in the county of Howard and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Concrete Fence Posts, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to fence posts and has for its object the provision of a concrete post of simple and durable construction which will effectually withstand the deleterious action of the elements for an indefinite period.
A further object is to provide a concrete post having a plurality of anchoring clips embedded therein and provided with registering recesses for the reception of the adjacent line wires.
A further object is to provide a removable locking rod adapted to extend through the recessed ends of the clips for preventing accidental displacement of the line wires.
A still further object of the invention is generally to improve this class of devices so as to increase their utility, durability and efficiency.
For a full understanding of the invention and the merits thereof, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a. perspective view of a concrete post constructed in accordance with my invention; Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the reinforcing rods detached; Fig. 3 is a detail vertical sectional view of the upper portion of the post showing the locking rod seated in one of the supporting clips; Fig. i is a transverse sectional view taken on the line L L of Fig. 3; Fig. 5 is a detail perspective view of one of the wire supporting clips; Fig. 6 is a transverse sectional view illustrating a modified form of the invention.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters.
The fence post comprises a body portion 5 preferably triangular in cross section, as
shown, and formed of cement, concrete or other plastic material.
Embedded in the concrete forming the body of the post. are a plurality of spaced anchoring clips 6, each preferably formed from a single piece of metal bent to produce concave side faces 7 defining oppositely dis- Specification of Letters Patent.

posed sockets 8 and 9, the adjacent edges of the metal constituting each clip being overlapped at the socket 9, as best shown in Fig. 5 of the drawing.
The sockets 8 are projected longitudinally beyond the adjacent face of the post 5, while the sockets 9 are embedded in the concrete and retained in position by a vertically disposed reinforcing rod 10.
The metal constituting the sockets 8 is cut-away to produce seating recesses 11 for the reception of the line wires 12, thus to maintain said line wires in proper spaced relation to each other. The line wires 12 are held against accidental displacement by a vertically disposed locking rod 13 which intersects the wire receiving recesses 11 and is provided at its upper end with a depending hook 14 adapted to engage one of the anchoring members or clips 6.
Embedded in the body of the post during the formation of the latter, are a plurality of reinforcing rods 15 having hooked terminals 17, as shown.
The front face of the post is provided with upper and lower shoulders 18 and 19 which extend outwardly a distance equal to the projecting ends of the wire supporting clips and serve to prevent injury to said clips when handling the post. The shoulders 18 and 19 are formed with registering recesses 20, one of which is adapted to receive the hooked end 14 of the locking rod while the other forms a socket for the reception of the lower end of said rod.
In using the device, the line wires are inserted in the seating recesses 11, after which the locking rod is forced downwardly within the sockets 8 and in front of the line wires, the hooked terminal 14: of the locking rod being subsequently passed through the upper recess 20 and pressed downwardly into engagement with the adjacent anchoring member or clip, thus to prevent accidental displacement of the locking rod.
Attention is here called to the fact that the central core or rod 10 not only serves as a means for anchoring the clips 6, but also serves to assist in reinforcing and strengthening the post, whilethe concave faces 7 of said clips form in efiect pockets for the reception of the cement or other plastic material constituting the body of the post.
In Fig. 6, there is illustrated a modified form of the invention, in which the post is molded or otherwise formed with spaced transverse slots 21 adapted to receive the wire suppoi 1e chps or loops 2:2, the latter being provided with reduced shanks the;

Having thus des Jed the invention, what is claimed as new is.
1. A. fence post comprising" a concrete body portion having one face thereof provided with spaced upper and lower shouh ders having registering recesses formed therein a reinforcing rod embedded in the concrete, at pl rality of clips each having; one end thereof (-I11l31't10ll1g the reinforcing rod and its other end projected longitudinally beyond the adjacent face of the post and provided with a socket dis posed in alineinent with the recesses in the shoulders and formed with a transverse seating recess for the reception of a line wire, and a locking rod seated in the sockets of the clips and hearing against the line wires, said locking rod having its opposite ends seated in the recesses in the shoulders one end of the locking rod being provided. with 21 depending hook adapted. to engage one of the clips.
2. A fence post including a concrete body portion having one face thereof provided with upper and lower laterally extending shoulders h a v' registering recesses forined therein a plurality of spaced wire receiving clips embedded in the post between said shoulders and provided with sockets disposed in alineinent with the recesses in the shoulders, and a locking rod seated in the recesses in said shoulders and extending through the sockets for preventing accidental displacement of the line wires.
