To whom it may concern: I
Befit known that I, Ranroxn B. GIL- ji r, a resident of Newark, in the county of E x and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stilueezers, ofwhich the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The invention relates to devices comnfonly known as squeezers and more particularly to that class used for small articles such as limes. i
The invention designs to 'providean improved lime-squeezer which is simple in construction. In practice devices for this purpose are usually made of non-corrosive metal, a. 9'. aluminum, which is a rather soft metal. In manufacturing these devices from such metall it has been found difficult to provide a' piv talconnection between the soft metal Wear'the .softmetal parts.
One -objectl of the invention is to provide an improved ivotal connection between the members which is specially. advantageous in devices of this character, when made of soft metal parts.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device embodying members each hav-" ing an integral jaw and handle and andr proved strainer.
Another object of the invention is to provide an improved construction in. which the spring for normally holding the jaws apart is held between the pivotally connected members, where it cannot be affected by juice expressed from the articles.-
Lastly, the invention designs to provide an improved lime-squeezer.
lVith these objects in view, the invention consists in the several novel features hereinaftefd'escribed and more particularly defined by claims at the conclusion hereof. I

2 is a plan of one of the squeezer-members and Fig. 3 1s a section on l1ne 33 of Fig 1 The device comprises members A and B I which are formed of non-corrosive metal such as aluminum. Member A has integrally formed therewith a jaw a and a handle a. Member B has integrally formed therewith a jaw b and a-han'dle a. Each of the members is provided with a perforation through which passes-a tubular rivet C which pivotally connects them. The upset end cof the rivet fits into an annular recess or groove 'SQUEEZER.

This construction makes it possible to use a spring which is inclosed so it cannot be affected by juice escaping from the squeezer.
A strainer E is integrally formed with member B below the compressor-jaw Z) and is extended laterally to catch the juice expressed from the article and has a rim-por tion 6 at its outer edge and a rim portion e at the opposite side thereof. J aw a of memher A is arranged to abut against rim-portion 6 which serves as a stop for-limiting the outward movement of thejaws. The strainer is. provided with holes 6 through which the juice expressed from the article can escape. By providing a rim for the strainer the loss of the juice is avoided and one portion thereofserves as a stop for lim'- iting the. relative movement 'of the members. Each jaw isprovided with transversely extending ribs 145 which extend straight across the jaw and the jaws are substantially straight transversely. The pu-. pose of the ribs is to grip the article and hold it between the jaws. The handles of the members comprise respectively a' side portion 15 and a transversely extending portion 16. This construction is such that the members can be readily cast without the use of complex molds and will best-rong and can be conveniently grasped in the hand.

The invention possesses several important advantages, .iThe device can be made of as soft non-corrosive metal as desired and will nonetheless be du "able and strong. The improved pivotal connection is simple and adds substantially no weight to the device and prevents undue wear at the-pivotal connection. One material advantage of the arrangement oi the spring is t-hatthejuices of the rimdo not come in contacttherewith. Then an exposed spring is used the juice corrodes it and this is objectionable. The construction of the strainer, transverse ribs on .the jaws and handles, is such that the parts can be produced ata low cost and so the device can be made of aluminum without danger of breakage in ordinary use.

1. [In a squeezer, the combination oi two members each having a jaw and a handle formed of soft metal, and a tubular rivet of harder metal extending through both of the members and upset to pivotally connect the members. together and secured against rotation in one of the members.

In a squeezer, the combination of twomembe'rs each havinga jaw and a handle formed of soft metal, and a perforation therein, and a tubular rivet of harder metal comprising an inwardly extending flange at its outer edge and a side extending 1n the direction of the plane of m0ven1ent of the jaws, the innerifaces or each side being-mgposed, a strainer integrally formed with. one
of the members and extended parallel tovthe plane of movement of the jaws, and tonnderlie the other member when the squeezer is open, and a rim extending around theouter edge and side of the strainer.
