ln the. drawings. the ironing board proper is illustrated as formed from slnetl` metal and is indicated bv the nmneral 5. The board is provided along its edge with a continuous dependingr liane'e G. This flange (3 at each side ot the hoard formed of greater ,l1 than :1t the ends (which ends are Ted) and the surplus depth is turned in as at T to additionally reinforce the board :it its sides. The sui'xportin;r means for the board is embodied in two members one of which is preterablv formed from a length of heav)v rod material heut ai opposite .sides ot' its middle as at S to form a commetingt portion 9 and spaced legs 10. plate ll is secured to the under side ot' the ard 5 at a point substantially midway betw een its ends and this plate is sohent between its points of attachment as to pivotally receive the connecting portion 9 of the supporting member. rl`he legs 1G of the member diverge. slightly as is clearly7 shown in Fig'. 2 of the drawings and each leg, at a point adjacent its juncture with the connectingr portion 9. is angularly bent as at l2 so that when the member is brought down to the position shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings, the portions of the legs between the bends 1'2 and the bends 8 will rest against the under side of the ironing board 5 and further movement of the member in that direction will be prevented.v

A cross bar 13 is secured at its ends to the legs and extends transversely7 across between these legs and the bar is formed Wi'h a notch 1l which serves a purpose to be presently explained. The other suiporting member for the board is in the nature of a single leer pivoted to the under side of the vboard near its head end as at 15 and seating in the notch ll in the cross bar 13, when swung' down to the position shown in Fig. l of the drawings. The legr just mentioned is preferably `formed from two sheet metal blanks constituting the sides of the leg, and that one constitutingr one side of the leg is indicated b v the immoral ltland the other one is indicated bj; the immoral 1T and of the two blanks, the one 1G has its edge portions bent inwardl;r as at 18 and thence back upon their portions 1S as at 19 and the other portion 17 has its edge portions bent as at 2O and thence back upon their portions 2O as at Q1 to seat between the portions 1S and 19 of the blank 1G. By this construction, the sides of the legA are of single plv structure whereas the upper and lowere'lges are of four ply structure. inasmuch as the single leg just described is subjected to vertical stress, the formation of its upper and lower sides of four ply structure will render the same sutiiciently strongr and rigid to properltv assist in supportingr the board 5 although the leg` is hollow and consequentl;Y comparativcl)VY lightv in weight. It will of course be understood thatV if desired, the first. described board supporting:r member emhedying the two legs 10. may be formed from tubing. it being in this form somewhat lighter than would be the case if formed from a solid rod. Further it will be understood that when the supporting members are swung to the position shown in Fig. l of the drawings and weight is imposed upon the board the two supporting members will firmly7 bind and will support the board 5 rigidly, the rigidity with which the board is supported being enhanced by any increase in n eight imposed upon it.
