winnaar.
To all 'whom it may concern:
` ei zen ot the United States, residing at, 1ndianapolis, 1n' the county or Marion and State of. indiana, have invented a. new and useful llindow, of which the following is a 'specitieation he obieet of my invention to vproduce an improved window sash, varying but little in aspect, troni ordinaryv window sashes, iu which it possible to swing the glass-carry members inwardly so to render the outer 'aee of the glass accessible from the in r oi the room for ready cleansing. he accompanying drawings illustrate my inv in tion.
ig re 1' is a perspective view of apair of cooperating window sashes constructed aoeording to my invention; ll`ig. 2 a horizontal ysection through the upper sash looking downward; Fig. 3 a fragmentary detail, and Fig. a section, on an enlarged scale, on
/line fet-4l of Fig. 2.
In they drawings, indicates' the ordinary 'window frame having the runway 11 for the lower` sash and the runway 12 for the upper sash. Slidably mounted in runway 11 is a sliding frame comprising uprights 13,' 13, bottom bar 14 and top bar l5 which may be provided with the usualcounterweight cords 1U. The upper cross bar lo may be omitted it'. desired but l believe,` for practical pur.- poses, that said upper bar is desirable as it serves to stillen and keep'separated the upper ends of the Vertical members 13.
Hinged to one of, the vertical members 13, 'either by the visible hinges 17, or by inl visible hinges or otherwise, is the glass carrying ra1ne'18 of ordinary form, said frame 18 having an upper cross bar 19 provided with a rearward extension 21 Whichtension 2l as shownl at 29 (F ig. il)
Specification of Letters atent.
Patented Dee. 13, 1910.
Application filed February 4, 1910. Serial No. 5423063.
An ordinary fastening 3l may be mounted upon the upper' faces of bars 19 and 27, as shown in 1.
ln order to keep 'out the wind through the vertical joints between the sliding upper sash and the swinging sash 25, the bars oomposing' the sliding sash may be caused to overlap the swinging sash as shown at 32 3). Sin'iilarly overlapping portions. $3 may be provided to close the vertical ioints between the lower sliding traine and the swinging sash 1S.
lli' desired vertical.registering slots llinay be formed in the adjacent faces of the swinging sash and its' carrying sliding frame, and a thin llexiblo metal strip 85 removably inserlcd therein vwhen the swinging sash is in normal position, said strip being withdrawn beit'ore the swinging sash can be opened.
lt will be noticed that the construction above described differs but little from present standard .construction so that winformed therein, vof a pair of sliding frames one mounted in each of said runways, and each comprising two vertical members and two cross members, and two swinging glasscarrying members each hinged to a vertical member of-one ot the sliding frames upon a vertical axis, the lower s winging'frame having an upper ber extending over the upper bar of its carrying frame and mating with the lower bar of the swinging frame of the upper 'carrying frame.
In witness whereol, I, have hereunto set my hand and seal at Indianapolis, Indiana,` I
