Description

G. S. MCBRIDE. c IN POLE CARRIER.
APPLI 0N FILED JULY 16,,1907.

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES S. MCBRIDE, 0F BROOKLYN, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR, BY DIRECT AND MESNE ASSIGNMENTS, OF ONE-HALF TO GOULD-MERSEREAU COMPANY, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., A CORPORATION OF NEW JERSEY, AND ONE-HALF TO H. L. JUDD COMPANY, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., A CORPORATION OF NEW YORK.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES S. MCBRIDE, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Brooklyn, county of Kings, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in. Curtain-Pole Oarriers, of which the following is a specification, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, which form a part thereof.
My invention comprehends certain novel features in the construction of curtain-pole sockets.
The particular object thereof is to provide a separable and removable roller carrying member independent of the supporting member, with means for retaining the roller carrying member in operative position by the engagement of the pole retaining member with the supporting member, as will be more fully understood by the following description.
Referring, now, to the drawings, in which like numerals indicate like parts throughout the various viewsFiguii'e l is a view in side elevation, partly in section, illustrating my improved form of curtain-pole socket. Fig. 2 is a front elevation thereof. Fig. 3 is a detailed View, in perspective, of the supporting or bed-plate member. Fig. 4 is a detailed view of one of the roller carrying members, showing the internal flange and set screw. Fig. 5 is a detailed view in perspective of the threaded pole retaining member.
1 indicates the support; 2- exteriorly threaded bed-plate or socket supporting member, which is provided with suitable perforations -3-; l suitable screws passing through perforations --3 of the bedplate 2-, screwing into support 1- and holding the bed-plate in rigid connection therewith; the-roller carrying ring, which is formed with an internal circumferential flange -6; 7 set screw threaded through the roller carrying ring -5; Sdepending bracket formed integral or connected to roller carrying ring -5-; 9 rollers, suitably journaled at --10 in bracket -8. 11 a lug having an eye or perforation 12- to receive one of the end curtain books; 13 the pole retaining sleeve, which is internally threaded at -l l--, said Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed July 16, 1907.

threads coinciding with the threads on the bed-plate 2--, and adapted to be screwed thereon; 15- indicates the curtain-pole.
The operation of and manner in which my device is used is as follows: The supporting member or bed-plate 2- is fastened to the support -1 by means of suitable screws The pole retaining sleeve -13- and the roller carrying ring -5 are slipped over the ends of the curtainpole --15-. The end of the pole is then placed in position in alinement with the bedplatc -2; the operator then slides the pole retaining sleeve -13 along to bring the internal threads -14. in engagement with the external threads of the bed-plate and then screws them together. It will be noted that the internal flange (S of the roller carrying ring 5- is forced and held against the support -1- by the pole retaining ring -13-. The tighter the sleeve 13- is screwed the more rigid will the ring 5- be held. It is manifest, therefore, that by providing an independent and separable roller carrying ring, it is not necessary to elevate the pole above or over the bracket to position it, as is necessary with the present known devices of this character. It will also be apparent that in view of this construction greater ease is attained in fastening the bed-plate to the support than in other structures where the bracket and bedplate are formed integral. This feature will be especially appreciated when operating in limited space. The screwing up of sleeve l3, the end of which abuts the flange 6 of ring "5-", has a tei'idency to bind the flange against the support and thus minimize the strain upon the screws -L fastening the bed-plate 2. The flange also prevents the sleeve 13- from marring the surface of the support.
Havingthus described my invention, what I claim as new herein and desire to protect by Letters Patent is: v
1. The COIIlbllltltlOll of a supporting memthreaded upon said supporting member; a
flanged roller carrying ring surrounding said supporting and pole retaining members.
3. The combination of a supporting member; a pole retaining member detachably secured to said supporting member; a roller carrying ring surrounding said pole retaining member and engaging one end thereof, and a set screw passing through said ring and engaging said pole retaining member.
4. A curtain-pole carrier comprising an apertured externally threaded bed-plate; a pole retaining sleeve adapted to screw on said threaded bed-plate, and a ring surrounding said bed-plate, having an internal flange engaging said pole retaining sleeve; said ring provided with an integral roller carrying bracket.
5. A curtain-pole carrier comprising an apertured externally threaded bed-plate; a pole retaining sleeve adapted to screw on said threaded bed-plate, and a ring surrounding said bed-plate, said ring being formed with an internal circumferential flange engaging said pole retaining sleeve; fastening means for said bed-plate; a roller carrying bracket connected to said ring and an eye formed on said bracket.
6. A curtain-pole carrier comprising anapertured externally threaded bed-plate; an internally threaded pole retaining sleeve screwed upon said bed-plate; a shouldered ring surrounding said pole retaining sleeve and engaging one end thereof; means for fastening said bed-plate to a support; a set screw passing through said ring and engag ing said pole retaining sleeve; a depending bracket on said ring and rollers journaled in said bracket.
7. The combination of a support; a bed plate; means for fastening said bed-plate to said support; a pole retaining sleeve detachably connected to said bed-plate, and a ring surrounding said bed-plate and said pole retaining sleeve said ring formed with an internal flange interposed between said support and one end of said pole retaining sleeve.
Signed at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York this 15th day of July, 1907.
CHARLES S. MCBRIDE.
