Description

Ilmrnn STATES PAr-nNr OFFICE.
FRANCIS M. LOWDEN AND JOHN D. LOWDEN, OF LAWRENCE, INDIANA.
Specication'formng part of Letters Patent No. 97,`5, datedrDecemb'er 14, 1869.
To @ZZ whom t may concern:
Be itknown that we, FRANoIs M. LowDEN and JOHN D. LOWDEN, of Lawrence, in the To enable others skilled inthe art to makev and use our said invention, we proceed to describe more fully, as follows:
A B of the accompanying drawing is a section of the plow-bean1. p
EF G H I is a rod of iron, bent in the shape there represented, passing, in the form of ascrew-tine, through the beam at E, and passing through a loop of metal represented by O, which is secured to the beam by a bolt-tine A at D. 'Io this rod E l` G H I are attached three other smaller rods, K L, M O, and P S, in the way represented in the drawing, so that H I, K L,M O, and` I? S will-al1 be parallel to each other. This is for a right-hand clodfender; but if it be desired to make a left-hand fender, the bend at E and the bend between be regulated at pleasure.
G and E may be reversed, so as to stand the other way, and the fender will be suitable for the left-hand side of the plow.
'Io use my ksaid invention, it is attached to the plow-'beam aforesaid, and used as any other elod-fender. It will be found that by putting on one jam-nut at E and another at D that the distance of the fender from the plow can free to oscillate around E and vibrate in the loop G, it will be found readily to rise and pass over any obstructions that may meet it in passing through the iield. By reason 4of the fact that the tines H I, K, L M O, and P S are parallel, and have no cross-pieces on them to form any obstruction, it will also be found that they will keep all the time clean, and not at any time get clogged up with dirt or any other truck.
What we clain1,aud desire to secure by Let-l ters Patent, is-
. The clod-fender herein described, when the same is constructed in its said several parts Y and used substantially as herein set forth.
In testimony that we claim the foregoing specification we have hereunto set our hands thislSth day of J une, 1869.
FRANCIS IVI. LOWDEN.
JOHN D. LOWDEN.
