To all whom it 'may concern:
Be it known that I, BERNARD HANLON, citizen of the United States, residing at Miles City, in the county of Custer and State of Montana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hame-Rings, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to harness, and refers particularly to a hame attachment for supporting the driving reins.
An object of this invention is to reduce the frictional contact between the edges of the reins and the hame ring which necessarily produces great wear upon the same.
The invention further provides a ring which is formed with a swivel joint and which is also hingedly connected to the hame for the purpose of permitting of a free movement to avoid the binding of the reins within the same and to thereby permit the ring to rotate to register the same with the plane of the line which passes therethrough.
For a full understanding of the invention and the merits thereof and also to acquire a knowledge of the details of construction, and the means for eecting the result, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, in which;

Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description, and indicated in all the views of the accompanying drawings, by the same reference characters.
Referring to the drawings, in which is disclosed an embodiment of the invention, the numeral 10 designates a ring which is formed of a portion of metal being round in cross section in order to eliminate the edges for cutting or frictionally engaging a rein which is passed therethrough, the ring 10 being provided at one point with an enlargement 11 which is preferably formed rectangular as is disclosed in the drawings for the purpose of providing an inner flattened face 12 and an outer flattened bearing face 13. The enlarged portion 11 is provided with a circular and central aperture through which is engaged an eye bolt 14. The eye bolt 14 is formed of a length of wire which is bent upon itself to form a. loop 15 and arms for engagement through the aperture in the enlargement 11. The arms are preferably flattened at their inner adjacent faces while the contour of the outer faces of the arms is of semi-circular formation to form a bearing in the enlargement 11. The extremities of the arms of the bolt 14 are off-set as at 16 and are countersunk within the inner face 12 of the enlargement 11 thereby providing a locking means for retaining the bolt 14 in the ring 10. The loop 15 engages against the outer bearing face 13 and is adapted to permit of the rotation of the ring 10 thereagainst. For securing the ring 10 to the haine 17 a shank 18 is provided which comprises a length of wire bent upon itself and flattened along its inner .adjacent edges, an eye 19 being formed at the outer end of the shank 18 by looping the length of wire. The shank 18 is preferably threaded as is disclosed in F ig. 2 of the drawings, for the purpose of forming a retaining means for the ring 10.
In use the rein 20 is engaged through the ring 10 and as the same is vibrated it assumes various planes with respect to the haine 17. As the rein 20 is vibrated the ring 10 is permitted to rotate about the bolt 14 to accommodate such vibration and the ring is also permitted to swing about the eye 19 of the shank 18 which is passed through the loop 15 of the bolt 14. Thus the movements of the ring 10 permit the same to yield to the resistance offered by the edges of the rein 2O and thereby reduces the frictional Contact between the same and the ring.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is A hame ring including a circular body to loosely receive a rein for longitudinal movement therethrough, a bolt disposed through one side of said body, said bolt being formed of a length of wire overturned upon itself to form a loop at its outer end, and having the free ends thereof engaged through said body7 the extremities o the free ends of said loop being upset and seated Within the face'of the body to loosely retain the bolt in position, a threaded shank engaged through the loop ofv said bolt to support the body, said bolt and said shank admitting of the swinging of the ring into various angles in planes at right angles to one another.
