SIMON H. KLEIN, OF MERIDIAN, MISSISSIPPI.
DISPLAY-COVER FOR BARRELS.
'1'0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Srirox H. KLEIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Meridian, in the county of Lauderdale and State of Mississippi, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Display-Covers for Barrels, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in United States Letters Patent, Number 668,103 granted to me February 12, 1901, the object being to provide a cover formed of two sections so that one of the sections can be quickly raised whereby the goods within the barrel can be removed without removing the cover from the same.
Another object of my invention is to pro vide novel means for holding the cover in position on the barrel so as to prevent the same from moving in any way.
A further object of the invention is to provide the fixed section of the cover with a display tray for holding samples of the contents of the barrel.
Another object of my invention is to connect the tray to the under side of the barrel by hinges whereby it can be swung downwardly so as to place the samples within the same, the tray being held in position by a spring hasp.
IVith these objects in view, my invention consists in the novel features or construc tion, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described and pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings forming a part of this specification :Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved display cover showing it arranged on the upper portion of the valve. Fig. 2 is a section taken on line 22 of Fig. 3. Fig. 8 is a top plan view of my improved cover and Fig. 4 is an inverted plan view of the same.
In carrying out my improved invention I employ a flanged cover A formed of two sections A, A of different sizes which are connected together by hinges B. The section A is provided with clamping screws C mounted in threaded bores formed in the flange of the same and adapted to engage the barrel D when placed'thereon so as to securely look the same in position. The
Specification of Letters Patent.

section A is provided with a handle E so that it can be readily raised in order to remove the contents of the barrel.
A rectangular shaped opening A is formed in the section A, under which is secured a pane of glass K by a strip of molding or any other suitable material. Arranged under the pane of glass is a rectangular shaped display tray F which is connected to the under side of the cover by hinges G at one side, and upon the opposite side is formed a keeper I adapted to be engaged by a spring hasp J so as to securely support the tray in position under the opening, so that the sample arranged therein can be clearly seen without opening the cover and exposing the contents to dirt and dust.
From the foregoing description it Will be seen that I have provided a display cover for barrels which is exceedingly cheap in construction, and one which is composed of a few parts which are so arranged that they can be readily connected to the barrel, so that one of the sections can be swung upwardly in order to allow the contents of the barrel to be removed.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is As a new article of manufacture, a display cover for barrels comprising a sectional cover formed of two sections, of unequal size hinged together, said sections being provided with depending flanges, the flange of the larger section being provided with clamping screws for securing the same in position on a barrel, said section being provided with an elongated opening, an oblong display tray hinged to the underside of said section co-acting with said opening, said tray being provided with a flanged upper edge, a pane of glass arranged in said flange for closing said opening, a keeper formed on one side of said tray, eyes secured to the underside of said section adjacent said opening, a hasp mounted in said eyes adapted to engage said keeper and a spring surrounding said hasp for normally holding said hasp into engagement with said keeper.
SIMON H. KLEIN.
