Description
L. D. DOZIER. Removable Cover for Show-BOX. No. 211,978,
Patented Feb. 4, I879.
MPEFEHS. FHDTO-UTNOGRAPNER, WASHINGTON, D. O.
UNITED STATES PATENT FFICE.
LElVIS D. DOZIEB, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
lMPROVEMENT IN REMOVABLE COVERS FOR SHOW-BOXES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 211,978, dated February 4, 1879; application filed December 4, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Lnwrs D. DOZIER, of the city of St. Louis, in the county of St. Louis and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Removable Covers for Boxes, of which the following is a specification This invention relates to certain improvements in removable tops or covers for boxes, showcases, and other similar receptacles for goods, whereby the-contents may be exposed to view without subjecting them to the damaging effects of exposure to the atmosphere, and at the same time afford a ready means whereby portions of the contents may be removed as desired.
The invention consists of an exterior frame of any suitable contour to suit different shaped boxes or receptacles. To the inner face of the rear member of the frame is hinged another frame or door, the central portion of which is of glass or other transparent material. This inner door is so constructed and arranged as to operate on or against the inner portion of the outer frame.
The frame side opposite to the hinged portion is provided with any suitable catch or button to insure the fastening together of the two members.
At each side of the frame braces or gripes are secured, which are intended to engage with the sides of the box or package and at one or both ends are buttons, which are turned down over the top of the box, and thus secure the frame from sliding lengthwise.
The drawing shows a perspective view of the cover with the glass door raised.
A represents the outer frame of the remova ble cover, which may be of wood, metal, or any suitable material, and of any desired shape to suit the use to which the cover is to beput. 13 represents the central cover or door, which consists of a frame preferably of a shape similar to that of the outer frame. This door has a glass or other transparent central portion, through which the goods contained in the box or other receptacle may be inspected. This cover or door B is at one side hinged to the frame A, while its other side is supplied with catches, and a knob or other suitable means for opening and closing the same.
On each side of the frame braces or gripes O are secured,'whose office it is to engage at a suitable angle with or in the sides of the box and hold the frame securely thereon.
Buttons D are secured to either one or both of the ends of the outer frame, and are turned down over the edge of the box or receptacle, against which the frame ends rest, thereby preventing the frame slipping up or down.
By my improvement I obtain a cover which, while it may be easily and securely applied, without danger of slipping, to boxes, show or other cases, and receptacles of various kinds, may be easily removed therefrom when desiredjand applied to other receptacles, and
which, while permitting the ready inspection and removal of the contents of such receptacles, will effectually protect the contents from damage incident to exposure. to the atmosphere. 4
I claim as my invention.
The frame A, provided with buttons D,
