SALVATOR PREIBANDIER. OF NEUCI-IATEL, SWITZERLAND.
BOILER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 29, 1910.
Application filed March 22, 1910. Serial No. 550,965.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SALVATOR PRI JBANDIER, citizen of Switzerland, residing at Neuchatel, canton of Neuchatel, Switzerland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Boilers, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to an improved form of sectional boiler, wherein a plurality of boiler sections are joined to form a series, and two such series of sections are placed opposite each other to form the complete heating plant.
The structure embodies a grate between the boiler sections, certain parts of the lat ter being directly exposed to the fire, while other parts of the boiler sections are exposed to the hot gases passing through the boiler. The sections are made hollow to contain water or such other circulating medium as it may be desired to heat.
The principal object of my invention is to provide a simple form of boiler or hot water heater wherein the loss of heat units will be reduced to a minimum; a further object being to provide a structure which may be easily assembled and disassembled and wherein the parts are so correlated that an unskilled workman may, if occasion arises, easily repair or replace any defective parts.
Other objects of the invention will appear from the following detailed description of the invention, reference being made to the accompanying drawing, wherein Figure l is an elevational view of my improved boiler, parts being shown in section; Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional View taken on the line AB of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a cross sectional view taken on the broken line CDEF of Fig. 1; and Fig. 4: is a sectional view taken on the broken line G-I-IIJK of Fig. 1.
In the preferred embodiment of my invention and as best seen in Figs. 1 and 3, the several boiler sections a are hollow and each consists of a plurality of intercommunicating chambers 71, j and 7a, the chamber 2' being the innermost one, or the one nearest the fire and preferably standing vertically, the chamber 3'' being the next succeeding one and preferably of curved form and the chamber 7: being the outermost one and of substantial U-shape. These several chambers are joined by suitable orificed metal webs and between the same are gas passages, those in one se-' ries being designated d, f and those in the other series being designated 6 and g. A plurality of such sections are oined together at each side of the boiler so that there is formed between the two series of sections a heating space I), a grate 0 being provided to receive the fuel charge through an inclined fuel feed conduit r. Passing through the several boiler sections are tubes Z and m on one side, and n and 0 on the other side by means of which circulation is maintained, the water entering the boiler from a suitable source through the pipe 7) and after being heated passing through the pipe 9 to the place where the heated water is utilized.
It will be noted that the fire is practically inclosed in water filled tubes thus securing high efficiency from fuel consumption and the gases emanating from the fire are compelled to follow a tortuous course, contacting with all parts of each boiler section, before they can escape through the pipe h.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is In a boiler of the character specified, provided with a gas escape port in one wall thereof, the combination of a series of hollow substantially Ushaped chambers extending longitudinally within each side of the casing, the ends of one series of chambers being opposed to the ends of the other series and the upper ends of said chambers lying in proximity to the gas escape port, a grate at the lower part of the boiler and over the lower opposed ends of said chambers, a series of vertically standing hollow chambers extending the length of the boiler at each side of the grate, a series of hollow curved chambers at each side of the boiler'intermediate the vertical and U-shaped chambers and so arranged as to form two vertical passages from the grate to the gas escape port, and hollow webs connecting the series of chambers at each side of the boiler, the arrangement being such that gases arising from the grate pass upwardly, downwardly and again upwardlyto the escape port and in their passage impinge against the chambers of all the series of sections.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
SALVATOR PREBANDIER. Witnesses:
ERNST LEI-IMANN, Gnsr. BERGNER.
