MATCH-STAND AND ASIELBECEIVER.
Specification of Letters latent.
Patented Nov. 15, 1910.
Application filed February 28, 1910. Serial No. 546,364.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it-known that I, EUGENE LAFLEUR, a subject of France, residin at Montclair, in the county of Essex and tate of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Match-Stands and Ash- Receivers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accom panying drawings;
My inventionrelates to improvements in match stands and ash receivers, and consists in the novel features of construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described in the claim.
The object of the invention is to provide a simple and practical device of this character which will not only support a box of matches, but also provide means for hold-. ing lighted cigars and cigarettes and receiving the ashes therefrom, the construction being such that the ashes will be efiectively inclosed and prevented from being blown about on the table, or other support on which the device is placed.
The above and other objects are attained in the construction illustrated in the a'ccom panying drawings in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved match stand and ash receiver; Fig. 2 is a top plan view; and Fig. 3 is a vertical section taken on the plane indicated by the line 3-3 in Fig. 1.
The invention comprises a body having a comparatively deep base section 1 to receive and contain .the ashes, and a removable top .section'2 carrying a means for supporting matches and lighted cigars or .cigarettes,
and also having openings through which ashes maybe deposited in the base section or member 1. The latter is preferably of circular shape when viewed from the top and its surrounding side wall 3 is inclined or bowed transversely in an upward or inclined direction as shown. The upper edge of the wall 3'is internally screw threaded as at 4 to receive an externally screw threaded flange 5 on 9. depending rim 6 which surrounds the top section 2, the latter being similar in shape to the base section. Rising from the? center of the to section or member 2 is a rigid standard? which carries at its top a holder 8 for. a box of matches. Formed in the to section 2 on opposite sides of the standard are elongated openings 9 through which the ashes are deposited into the base section 1 of the device. Also formed in said top section 2 and extending in opposite directions from the openings 9 are depressions or grooves 10 in which burning or lighted cigars, cigarettes or the like may be placed with their ignited ends disposed over the openings so that the ashes will drop on to the bottom 'ofthe base section 1. By constructing the top section in this manner itwill be seen that four cigars or the like may be supported so that the ashes will drop into the device, and the ashes of a cigar held in the hand may be readily knocked oif into one of the openings 9 so that they will fall and collect upon the bottom of the base section 2. The two sections effectively inclose the ashes so that they can not possibly be blown about the room, and at the same time the screw threaded or detachable two sections of the device enables them to be easily separated to remove the ashes and to clean the base section. It will be noted that the match box holder 8. and standard '7 will serve as a handle for the upper section 2, and hence for the entire device. Having thus described the invention,what is claimed is:
The herein described device comprising a circular base section having an upwardly and inwardly inclined surrounding wall formed with an internally screw-threaded, inwardly-extending rim, a flat top section having :1 depending annular fiangewith an externally screw threaded portion to screw into said rim on the uprightwall of the base section, the flat top section being formed on opposite sides openings and with cigar receiving channels or seats stamped in the same at opposite ends of and communicating with said elongated openings, the center. of said top section bein formed with a standardhaving a reduce screw threaded stem at its top and a match -box holder arranged on said screw threaded stem to serve as a handle for the device.
In testimony whereof I hereunto alfix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
, EUGENE- LAFLEUR. I
Witnesses WM. WHITNEY AMEs, ELIZABETH J. DEMMERT.
