Description
,1. JENKINSOM i Flatiron Heater. N0.-97,515. h l Patented Dec. 7, 1869.
flint-iwi 'teiet ein To all whom it may concern JAMES JENKIN-SON, OF WILLIAMSBURG, NEW YORK.
Letters Patent No. 97,515, dated December 7 1869; antedatecl December 4, 1869.
sAD-IR'ON HEATER The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
Be it known that I, JAMES J ENKiNsoN, of Williamsburg, Kings county, New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Heating SadfIrons; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same,
p reference being had to the accompanying drawings,
ihrming part of this specification," in Which- Figure 1 is a detail sectional View of my improved sad-iron and stand'.
Figure 2 is a top view ofthe stand.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
My invention has for its object to furnish an im provement in heating sad-irons with kerosene-lamps, gas-burners, &c., by means of which the sad-irons may be readily and conveniently heated and It consists in the construction of the sad-iron, as hereinafter more fully described.
A represents a lamp, about the construction of which there is not-hing new. p
B is the stand, consisting of a plate, b1, lwith three or more legs, b2, at such a distance apart as to receive the body of the lamp A between them.
In the plate b1 of the stand B, is formed a hole or holes, with an upwardly-projecting tubular flange, b,
surrounding the burner or burners.
The stand B should be formed with as many flanged holes as it is desired to heat sad-irons at the same time, and an equal number of burners should he used.
G is the sad-iron, which is made with a hole extending longitudinally through it, from heel to point, the
rear end of said hole being so formed as to itpup'on the tubular ange of the stand B, the sad-iron itself thus serving a lamp-chimney, and, at the same time, receiving the full force of the iiame of the lamp.
D is the handle, the rear armoi' which is formed with a hook1 to hook into an ear formed upon the body C of the said sad-iron.
The forward arm has a hook-lever, d', pivot-ed to its forward side, which hooks into an ear formed upon the sad-iron C.
The upper end of the hook-lever d is provided with a pin, which enters a socket in the handle D, in which socket is placed a ooiledwire spring, by the elasticity ot' which the upper end of the lever-hook is held for? ward, to prevent the handle from becoming accidentally detached.
I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The sad-iron C, having the tapering longitudinal hole direct-ly through it, from heel to point, and provided with the rebate at its base, so as to be applied to a heater, in the manner herein set forth and shown, for the purpose specified.
2. In combination with the above, the detachable fhandle' D d, as herein described, for the nur ppse specied The above specincation of my invention signed by me, this 17th day of March, 1869.
JAMES JENKINSON.
