A. SONAK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sprague, in the county of Raleigh, State of WestaVirginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Miners Caps; and I do herebydeclare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make The invention relates to miners caps and more particularly to the class of lamp holders for miners caps.

The primary object of the invention is the provision of a lamp holder of this character in which the lamp or torch will be suitably extended in a rigld manner upon a miners cap so as to effectually hold the lamp or torch from swinging sidewise, from turning over and spilling the oil over the cap.

Another object of the invention is the provision of a lamp holder of the class described in which a lamp may be easily and quickly attached to a miners cap and which lamp will be rigidly held in the holder to prevent it from falling or becoming detached from the cap when the user stoops or assumes other attitudes.

A further object of the invention is the provision of a lamp holder of the class described which is simple in construction, thoroughly reliable and eflicient and inexpensive in the manufacture;

Withthese and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be in the accompanyin drawings, which disclose the preferred orm of embodiment of the invention, and as pointed out in the claims hereunto appended.

In the drawings, the numeral 5 designates a miners cap which is preferabl formed of flexible material and constructe in the ordinary or well known manner having the usual vizor 6.

The improvement to which the invention relates is a lamp support or holder for caps of this character, the holder not only adapted to retain the lamp insubstantially fixed position but to prevent swinging movement thereof when the miner raises or lowers his head or moves his head from side to side and also prevents the lamp falling from the cap. a The holder comprises a base plate 7 preferably constructed of flat sheet metal having its upper extremity bent rearwardly at right angles to form an extension 8, which latter is secured by rivets 9, to the top of the crown of the cap and the opposite extremity is bent forwardly at an inclination to form an inclined extension 10, resting against the outer face of the vizor and being suitably secured thereto, so as to holdthe intermediate vertical portion 11, of the base plate in spaced parallel relation to the crown of the cap. The opposite side edges of the base plate are inturned as at 12, to form securin flangesl13, engaging and fastening a curve reinforcing plate 14, to the base plate and this plate 14, serves to strengthen the said base plate.

Directl beneath the right angular extension 8 o the base plate and secured centrally to the rear face of the vertical intermedlate portion 11, of the base plate is a bracket 15, the same formed from a strip of metal bent to provide inwardly converging yieldable wings 16, the same forming therebetween a tapering socket or recess 17, into which is adapted to be wedged the bill 18, of a hook 19, secured to and carried by a torch lamp 19, the latter being of the usual or ordinary construction. To permit the introduction of the bill between the wings 16, into the socket 17 there is provided an alining aperture 20, in the extension 8, relative to the said socket, contained in the bracket on the holder.

From the foregoing, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, it is thought the construction and operation of the invention will be clearly apparent without the necessity of a more extended explanation and therefore the same has been omitted.

What is claimed is 1. A lamp support comprising a base plate, a reinforcing plate carried by the same, and a bracket secured to the base plate and having rearwardly projecting and downwardly converging yieldable wings to receive therebetween and wedge the bill of a lamp supporting hook. Y

A lamp support comprising a base plate and rearwardly projecting and downwardly converging means secured to the inner face of the base plate and adapted to 1vlvedlge therein the bill of a lamp supporting 3. A lamp support comprising a base plate, means secured to the base plate forming a V-shaped socket adapted to wedge therein the bill of a lamp supporting hook, and means reinforcing the base plate.

4. The combination with a cap, a base plate secured thereto and having a vertical portion, of a bracket secured to the vertical portion of the base plate and having rearwa-rdly projecting and downwardly converging yieldable wings to receive and wedge therebetween the bill portion of the hook of a lamp.

5. A lamp support comprising a substantially Z-shaped plate having a central slot therein, and a strip of material secured at the inner face of the plate near its top, the said strip being bent to provide rearwardly projecting and downwardly converging yieldable wings disposed in the path of the slot and adapted to frictionally engage and wedge therebetween the bill portion of a lamp hook when passed through the slot in the plate.
