SHADE-ROLLER BRACKET.
Specification of Letters Patent.

Application led April 4, 1910. Serial No. 553,224.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that we, AUGUST ROTHFUCHS and CHARLES Eck, citizens of the United States, residing at Hammond, in the county of Lake and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shade-Roller Brackets; and we do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description" yof the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in shade roller brackets.
One object of the invention is to provide a shade roller bracket having an limproved means for adjust-ably securing the same to a window frame, thus providlng a support for shade rollers of dierent lengths.
A further object is to provide an adjustable shade roller bracket which will be simple, strong, durable and inexpensive in construction, reliable in operation, and well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.
With the foregoing and lother objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a front view of the upper end of a window frame showin@ the application of the invention thereto; Fig. 2 is a horizontal sectional view on the line 2 2 of Fig. l showing a top plan view of the invention; Fig. 3 is a vertical cross sectional view of the same on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2; Fig. 4 is a detail perspective view of the adjustable member of the bracket.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 denotes the stationary member of the bracket, said member comprising a metal plate 2 having its opposite ends bent inwardly :and thence laterally to form `offset attaching lugs 3, which are provided with suitable apertures to receive screws, nails or other suitable fastening devices whereby said plates may be secured to the opposite Sides of the window frame adjacent to its upper end. On the lower edge of the plate 2 is formed an inwardly projecting ange 4, which, when the plate 2 is in position on the window frame, extends inwardly to within a very slight distance from the outer side of the window frame for a purpose hereinafter described. In the upper edge of the plate 2 are formed a series of vertically disposed notches 5 which are arranged in paralel relation and are spaced a suitable distance-apart as shown.
-The adjustable member 6 of the bracket comprises a bracket plate 7 having on its inner end an upper right angular lug 8, which projects beyond one side of the plate 7' and a lower right angular lug 9, which projects from the opposite side of the plate and extends a slight distance below the latter, as shown. In the lower edge of the plate 7 adjacent to its inner end is formed a vertically disposed notch l0, while in the outer portion of the plate is formed either a circular bearing aperture, or as shown in the drawings, an oblong or square aperture 11, said apertures being adapted to receive the pintle and the end of the spring winding rod of the shade roller.
In using the bracket, the notch 10 in the plate 7 of the adjustable member .of the bracket is engaged with one of the notches 5 in the plate 2 of the stationary member, and said adjustable member is then forced downwardly so that the notched portion thereof will engage the lower portion of the plate 2, while the notched portion of the plate 2 will engage the upper portion of the plate 7, thereby forming an interlocking engagement between these parts. When the plate 7 is thus engaged with the plate 2, the lugs 8 and 9 on the inner end of the plate 7 will bear against the outer surface of the window frame, while the lower extended end of the lug 9 will project through the space between the inner end of the flange 4 and the adjacent outer surface of the window frame, whereby said extended end of the lug will be braced and' held by the flange 4.
The engagement of the lugs 8 and 9 with the window frame, together with the notched interlocking connection between the plate 7 of the adjustable member, and the plate 2 of the stationary member, will securely hold the adjustable member in its adjusted position without the use of separate fastening devices of any kind and at the same time will permit the adjustable member to be readily disengaged from the stationary member and shifted to a different position, thus providing for the accommodation of shade rollers of different lengths.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings,
`the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without re quiring a more extended explanation.
Various changes in the form, proportion and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention as defined in the appended claim.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim is In a shade roller bracket, a stationary member adapted to be secured to a Window frame, said member having formed therein a series of upwardly extending` locking notches, an inwardly projecting ange formed on the lower edge of said member, the inner edge of said flange being spaced a short distance from the frame, an adjustable member having formed therein a notch adapted to be engaged with one of the notches in said stationary member whereby an interlocking connection is provided between said members, oppositely projecting right angular lugs formed on'the inner end of said adjustable member and adapted to bear against the outer surface of the window frame, one of said lugs having an eX- tension adapted to lit within the space between the inwardly project-ing flange on the lower edge of said stationary member and the adjacent surface of the window frame.
