Description

, rnonocrion on LIGHTING UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE. l I
CAMILLA FEHER ZI-IANIEL, F CHARLOTTENBURG, GERMANY.
No Drawing.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Mrs. FERDINAND ZI-IA MEL, ne'e CAMILLA Fnnnn, wldow, sub ect of the Kingdom of Hungary, and resident of Charlottenburg, near Berlin, Germany, have made a'new Invention Referring to Production of Lighting Effects on Stages by Means of High-Tension Currents of High Frequency, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to a method for producing illuminating efiiects on decorations and costumes, particularly theatrical decorations and costumes, in which the illuminating effects are obtained by means of electrical currents of high tension and of high frequency.
The articles such'as decorations or garments are impregnated with pulverized or finely divided metal such as metal powder, small balls, flakes, or the like, of good conducting material, such as copper, graphite, coal dust and the like. These articles thus prepared are introduced into the circuit of the electric current or currents. Numerous sparks are thus produced between the several conducting portions of the articles.
For the reason of minimizing any danger, the electric current is chosen of a high fre- Specifieation of Letters Patent.

quency; and for the purpose of reducing the noise incident to producing illuminating effects to a minimum, the tension of the current or currents is also selected/high. The tension may vary within very wide limits, however I prefer a voltage of one hundred thousand to five hundred thousand volts.
Having now described my invention, What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:
The method of producing lighting effects on stages by means of high tension currents of high frequency, which comprises impregnating theatrical garments or decorations with powdered conducting material, and thereupon introducing the articles thus prepared into the circuit of high tension currents of high frequency, as and for the purpose described.
. In witness whereof I have hereunto signed my name this twenty-first day of June one thousand nine hundred and nine in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
MRS. FERDINAND ZHANIEL,
m GAMILLA FEHER.
