INSULATOR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N o. 681 ,757, dated September 3, 1901.

To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HEINRICH TRAUN, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, residing at Hamburg, Empire of Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Insulators, of which the following is a description.
The present invention relates to that class of insulator used in connection with the suspension of the conductors for powerful currents; and it consists of the details of construction hereinafter set forth, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
In order to render the present specification easily intelligible, reference is had to the accompanying drawings, in which similar letters of reference denote similar parts thro ughout both views.
Figure 1 is a vertical section through the device, and Fig. 2 a plan view showing the insulating-covering in horizontal section.
According to the present invention a metal core of any desired suitable shape is evenly coated with a layer of insulating material, such as vulcanite, ambroine, or the like. In the drawings the insulator is represented as in the form of a buckle,- the core a being of suitable metal, which is provided with a strong even covering or layer of insulating material 0. Great care should be taken that the whole of the core is evenly covered with a sufliciently-thick layer of the insulating material. In the embodiment illustrated the suspension-wires are attached to the holderloops ff, having the holes g, while the con-' ductor proper is suspended from the loop h, fitted to the central cross-bar of the buckle.
It will be readily understood that the invention is not restricted to the buckle form illustrated, as the cross-bar might easily be dispensed with. The exterior part might also be round or oval and formed with or without the central cross-bar. The essential feature of the invention is that the metal core be evenly covered at all points with a layer of insulating material.
I claim as my invention- 1. An insulator for electric conductors consisting of a metallic frame provided with a cross-bar extending from one side to the other thereof, the whole being entirely covered by an even layer of vulcanite substantially as described.
2. An insulator for electric conductors consisting of a metallic frame provided with a cross-bar extending from one side to the other thereof, the whole being entirely covered with an even layer of vulcanite, metallic loops for the attachment of the carrier-wires and a metallic loop on the cross-bar to hold the conductor substantially as described.
