Specification of Letters Patent.

Application filed June 25, 1910. Serial No. 568,866.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, Jol-1N HENRY MARSH, a subject of the King of Great Britain, and resident of 195 Markhouse road, Walthamstow, London, England, engineer, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sash-Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to holders for windows with sliding sashes especially house, railway carriage, motor and carriage windows of the type in which a spring-pressed plunger having a roller on one member of the window is adapted to engage the other member of the window and to be locked in position, and has for its object to provide an improved construction of such holders. The window has on the edge of the sliding part a corrugated strip of metal, while the frame is provided with a spring-pressed plunger adapted to coact therewith. The plunger is adapted to slide in a guide frame within which a coiled spring or rubber buii'er is disposed. The outer end of the plunger is provided with a roller and the inner end is beveled for a purpose to be hereinafter set forth.
In accordance with this invention a sliding member is arranged in the frame of the window and transversely of the plunger, said sliding member having an aperture through which said plunger can slide and having an inclined part adjacent to said aperture and adapted to coact with the beveled end of the plunger, so that when the member is slid .the end of the plunger rides up the incline and the outer end of the plunger is held in engagement with the corrugated strip on the sliding part of the window in such manner as to prevent the plunger being forced back and consequently to prevent the window from being moved. Preferably each sliding part of the window is provided with two holders, one on each side.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a sectional elevation showing one form of window holder constructed in accordance with this invention as applied to the lower sliding sash of a window. Fig. 2 is a face view of a detail. Fig. 3 is an elevation at right angles to the view shown in Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a fragmentary face view in the direction of the arrow A, Fig. l and Fig. 5 is a section on line 5-5 of Fig. 1,

Adjacent to each aperture a is an inclined part 0 adapted to coact with the beveled end p of the plunger c when the member 7s is slid and for this purpose the member 7c is provided with a neck g passing through a plate r secured to the frame s 0f the window and with a knob t.
In use as the sash Z) is slid the corrugated strip ai rides over the roller e on the plunger o and causes said plunger to be moved against the action of its spring L., the end of the plunger passing through the aperture n in the member As will be seen the sash Z) will be retained at any desired height by the coacting plunger and corrugated strip. When it is desired to prevent the window from being moved the member 7c is slid so that the aperture a and the plunger c are out of register, as shown in Fig. 4, so that the incline 0 coacting with the beveled end j; of the plunger c causes the roller c to b-e pressed against the corrugated strip a and prevents the window from being moved since the plunger c cannot be forced back to allow the corrugations to pass.
If desired a rubber buffer may be substituted for the coiled spring L. The conliguration of the corrugated strip a and the stroke of the plunger c will depend on the weight of the window to be supported.
By the use of such window holders the grip on the sliding sashes prevents the windows from rattling.
Claim:
A sash fastener, comprising a corrugated strip adapted to be secured to a sash, a casing adapted to be secured to a window frame, a spring pressed plunger in the cas ing and having its outer end beveled and projecting through an aperture in the casing, u ruller mounted 011 the inner end of l being provided on its inner face with un the plunger, a keeper frame Secured to the lnellned surface leadlng t0 the aperture Outer end of the caslng, and 2L bar mounted thereof.
