Description

inite giedre N Letters Patent No..97,313, dated November 30, 1869.
IMPROVEMENT IN GRAPELCRUSHERVS AND STEMSEPARATORS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent Aam! making part of` the same.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, TURNER C. PURINGTON, of Lincoln, Placer county, State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Grape- Crusher and Stem-Separator, for which Letters Patent of the United States were granted vto me,- Marc-h .30, 186.9 and numbered,88,32 9,;aud Ido' hereby. declare that the following is a full and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters marked thereon.
My invention relates to certain improvements in the mechanism for operating the Crusher or rubber by a lever, in connection with pivoted toothed segments, as hereinafter described.
In the drawings- Figure 1 is a side elevation or front view.
Figure 2 is an elevation of thel crusher, showing the segmental arm'v and shaft-bearings in section.
Figure 3 is a sectional View ofthe rubber or crusher and one shaft-bearing. A
To enable others skilled in the art o r sciencefto which it mos't nearly appertains, to makeand use my invention or improvement, I will proceed to describe fully its construction and operation.
A represents the segmental pinion, with the shaft S ,working inthe boxes o.
' The pinion works `in the teeth of the segmental arm B, which is pivoted to the step E, moving on the pin P The motion is imparted to the rubber. by the lever D, passing through sokets C C, cast with-the arm B.
.The form of construction of the rubber T, I have fouudt-o he of great importance for the perfect working of, my machine, and which vis nearly flat on the lower face or bottoni, with slightly-rounded edges.
can be easily raised or lowered to or from the grated bottom. v
I have found the to-and-fro or .refractory motion, as produced by operating the lever D upon the segmented arm B, the easiest and best method of operating with my machine; and pivoting the arm B in the step E', and attaching the step to the frame and box, as shown, impart strength to the whole machine.
Other power than that of hand-power may be employed for working the beater, although one man `cau `operate with the machine quite easily.
The same'. general manner of operating with my improvement may be followed as that laid down in my former specification.
'Having thus described my'inveutiou,
What I claim, and desire to sec-ure by Letters Pat ent, is-
The beater T, vlever D, pivoted toothed segments A, and B B B, when constructed, arranged, and operating together as and for the purposeherein set forth."
TURNER C. PURINGTON. [n s.]
