To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that'I, ROBERT CLARK, a subject of the King of Great Britain. residing at Oakhurst, lValthamstow, in the county of Essex, England. have invented certain new'and useful Improvements in Manifolding-Pads, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description. such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make anduse thesanie.

This invention relates to manifolding pads, and more particularly to sales booksand the like.

One of the objects thereof is to provide a compact and self-contained device of the above nature adapted for rapid and efficient manipulation. v

Another object is to provide, in connection with a type of sales book in which certain leaves.are connected one with another at the end, means whereby certain defects are remedied and the. general utility in creased.

Otherzobjects will be in part obvious and in partpointed out hereinafter.

The invention accordingly consists in the features of construction, combinations of elements and arrangement of parts which will he exemplified in the construction'hereinafter set forth, and the scope of the application ofwhich will be indicated in the fol lowing claims.

end of the pad. Each leaf of the pad is provided upon one side with a stub or extension 9 connected therewith as along the weakened line 10. i

In the construction shown in Fig. 1, the several stubs or extensions 9 are of such proportions and otherwise so adapted as to permit of their serving as a writing surface to preserve data corresponding to that upon the leaf with which they were originally connected. These stubs or extensions, moreover, collectively form a means for securing the pad within the holder, as by means of the spring clip 11, and also serve to maintain the sets of leaves 2 and 3 in proper re lation one to another. In the latter function they are aided by having their edges secured together by glue or the like as at 11*, thus holding. the parts of the pad in proper form even when the same is not secured within the cover 1. i

In Fig. 3 is shown a similar construction differing chiefly in that the stubs/or extensions 9 are bound as by staples 12 to a stiff tongue 13 of cardboard or the like, which enters a suitable pocket 14 in the cover 15 and thus holds the pad removably in place.

The leaf shown in Fig. 4 comprisesa shortstub ortab lti in place of the larger corresponding portions in the embodiments above described, but acts in a similar manner to hold the portions of the pad in proper relation.

The method of use of the first described embodiment .of my invention; from which those of the forms later setforth will be clear, is substantially as follows: Assuming that the cover 1 is empty, a pad is placed within the clasp 11. as shown. and a transfer sheet mounted within the clip 7.

.If now an entry is to be made, the uppermost leaf '2 is torn downwardly along the line 10 and the transfer sheet 6 inserted between the same and the duplicate leaf portion 3. Leaf 2 is then folded back and any desired inscription made thereon, the same being transmitted to the duplicate leaf 8. If the extensions 9 are to be used for recordingpurposes. an entry may be made upon that corresponding to the leaf just used and these extensions may he numbered to correspond with the main leaves for purposes of identification. After the entry is made, the leaf portion 3 is torn from its stub along its line 10 by drawing the leaf 2 upwardly and the original and duplicate may be removed from the hook by tearing along the line 5, thus leaving the pad in its original condition. In the preferred use of the book, however, after the leaf portion 3 is torn from its stub the same is drawn downwardly, tearing the next leaf portion 2 from its stub and is then separated along the line 5 permitting this second or unused leaf 2 to be folded back over the transfer sheet and leave the pad in condition for an entry. The used leaf portions 2 and 3 may. then be separated along the line 4 and any desired disposition made of the same.

It will thus be scent-hat there, is provided a device in which the several objects of this I invention are achieved and the above enu merated advantages are, among others, present. The book, while possessing the advantageous features of those of the continuous type, is nevertheless held firmly together and its leaves cannot slide one upon the other or become unfolded in the course of manipulation of the pad. The construction is simple and cheap, and the use of the device, both in the making of entries and in the insertion and removal of the pad with respect to the holder, is rapid and convenient.

As many changes could be made in the above construction and many apparently ..widely different embodiments of this invention could be made without departing from the scope thereof, it is intended that all matter contained in the above description or shown in the accompanying drawing shall be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.'

Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. In a device of the class described, incombination, a plurality of leaves connected 'end to end in a continuous strip and folded into superposed relation, each'leaf extendingnnweakened between folds and being connected to the following leaf along a weakened line, each of said leaves having integral therewith an extension upon its lateral edge connected along a weakened line, means for fastening said extensions to one another, a cover, means securing said extensions within said cover,- and a-transfer sheet mounted within said cover and adapted to be inserted betweenpairs ofsaidleaves.

2. Ina device of the class described, in.

combination, aplurality of leaves connected 'end to end in a continuous strip and folded into superimposed relation, each leaf extending unweakened between folds connected to the following leaf along a weakened line,

and I being each of said leaves having an'extension upon lateral edge connected 1 along a weakened line, means positively fastening said extensions to .one another, a cover, means removably holding said leaves within said cover, a gripping member mounted upon said cover, and a transfer medium removably' held by said gripping member and adapted tobe inserted betweenpairs of said leaves. 7

3. In a device of the class described, in combination, a plurality of leaves connected end to end in a continuousstrip and folded into superimposed relation each of said leaves having an extension upon its lateral edge connected along a weakened line, means positively fastening said extensions to 'one another, a member ad acent said folded leaveshaving an extension upon its lateral edge connected along a weakened line, means positively fastening saidextensions to one another, a cover, means removably holding said leaves within said cover, a member ed strip, and a transferring medium removably held upon said member. p

5. In a device of the class described, in combination, a plurality 'of'leaves connected end to end in a continuous strip and folded into superimposed relation, each of said leaves having an extension upon one of.its edges connected along a weakened line, means positively fastening said extensions to one another, a cover, means removably holding said leaves within said cover, a

block secured to said cover adjacent said leaves, a gripping member supported there by, and a transferring medium removably held by said gripping member and adapted to be inserted between pairs of said leaves.

6. In a device of the class described, in combination, a plurality of leaves connected end to end in a continuous strip and folded into superimposed relation, each of said leaves having an extension upon its lateral edge connected along a weakened line,

mounted upon said cover adjacent said foldmeans positively fastening said extensions to one another, a member adjacent said folded strip, holding means supported thereby, and a transfer. medium removably held by said holding means and adapted to be in serted between pairs of said leaves.
