TROUSERS-STRETCHER.

T o all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, YAIoi-imo TAKANo, a subject of the Emperor of Japan, and a resident of Atlantic City, in the county of Atlantic and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Trousers-Stretchers, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

rlhis invention relates to a trousers stretcher of a type which is adapted to suspend the trousers from a suitable support, at the same time stretching out the wrinkles and forming creasesalong the proper lines.

An object of this invention is to provide a device which will be simple in construction, strong, durable, easily manipulated, and posit-ive in its operation.

A further object of this invention is to provide a device which will automatically put a tension on the material of a pair of trousers, when once adjusted.

These and further objects, together with the construction and combination of parts, will be more fully described hereinafter and particularly set forth in the claims.

Reference is to be hadto the accompanying drawings forming a part of this speciication, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views, and in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of one form of my device; Fig, 2 is a horizontal section on t-he line 2 2 of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a modified form of connection; Fig. 4 is a horizontal section on the line 4 4 of Fig. 1, showing the parts in their unfolded position; Fig. 5 is a view similar to Fig. 4, showing the parts in their closed or locked position; Figs. 6 and 7 are enlarged detail views in elevation of the locking clamp, taken from opposite sides; Fig. 8 is a view in elevation, showing my device with a pair of trousers being pressed thereby; and Fig. 9 is a horizontal section on the line 9 9 of Fig. 8.

Referring more particularly to the separate parts of the device, 10 indicates a hanger, which is formed with a suitable hook 11 at the top thereof, and is provided with a cross bar 12 near the bottom thereof. The cross bar 12 is provided at its outer extremities -with eyes 13 through which are threaded suspending members 14, which are pivotally connected together at their upper ends by means of pins 15 and= links 16. l preferably between the links 1G and the extremities of the members 14, so that there is a loose adjustable connection between the hanger 10 and the suspending members 14.

In Fig. 3, another form of connection of the suspending members 14 to the hanger 1() illustrated. This consists of a ring` 17, which is slidingly mounted on the upright member of the hanger 10, and is provided with flanges 18, which form pivotal supports for pins 19, which pivotally support the suspending members 14.

Secured in any well known manner to the lower ends of the suspending members 14, there are provided creasers 20, which consist of two members 21 and 22 of any suitable forin and material, such as longitudinal boards which are hinged together at their back edges by means of hinges 23. The members 21 and 22 of the creasers 2O are adapted to swing from the open position illustrated in Fig. 4 to the closed position illustrated in Fig. 5, so as to press the side edges of a pair of trousers, as illustrated in Fig. 9.

In order to secure the hangers 20` in their closed position, there are provided on each creaser a plurality of clamps 24. These clamps consist of a stationary member 25 secured to one of the boards 21 and 22 in any well known manner, and a movable member 26 pivotally connected to the stationary member 25, so as to swing in a plane parallel to the planes of said -stationary members, and having a threaded opening in its outer extremity, in which a set screw 27 is adjustably secured. The set screw 27 is adapted to bear on a facing or wear plate 28, which is secured in any well known manner to the other member of the creaser. By this means, when a pair of trousers has once been placed in the creaser, and the parts thereof closed together, a pressure may be applied, which may be varied as desired.

The operation of the device will be readily understood from the above description. Before placing a pair of trousers in the creasers, the hanger 10 is slid down upon the suspending members 14, drawing them together. The creasers 20 are then opened, and the edges of the trousers inserted between them. After this has been done, the creasers are closed and locked tightly together by means of the clamps 24, the desired pressure being obtained by screwing the set screws 27 more or less tightly. The

device containing the trousers is then suspended from the hook l1 on the hanger 10. IVhen this has been done, the weight of the trousers and the creasers will move the suspending members lt downwardly relative to the hanger l0, thereby causing the lower ends of the suspending members to spread apart, and forcing the creasers 20 to put a side tension on the trousers, stretching them and drawing out the wrinkles.

Thus a convenient hanger is provided, which will, at the same time that it suspends the trousers, form a crease along the proper lines and stretch out t-he wrinkles in the trousers.

IVhile I have shown one form of my device, I do not wish to be limited to the specific elements therein, but desire to cover the idea as broadly as possible within the scope of the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent l. In a device of the class described, the combination with trousers-gripping means, of members connected to said gripping means and pivotally connected together, and a hanger adjustably connected to said members and adapted to spread said members apart when suspended.

2. In a device of the class described, the combination with a pair of gripping members, of a pair of suspending members pivotally connected together and connected to said gripping members, and a hanger slidingly connected to said suspending members and adapted to spread them apart.

3. In a device of the class described, the combination with a hanger, of a pair of suspending members adjustably connected with said hanger, and a creaser connected to each of said suspending members, said creasers each comprising a pair of gripping boards hinged together, a stationary clamping member secured to one of said boards, and a movable clamping member pivoted to said stationary clamping member so as to rotate in a plane parallel thereto.

In ay device of the class described, the combinat-ion with a hanger, of a pair of suspending members adjustably connected to said hanger, and a creaser secured to each of said suspending members, said creasers each comprising a pair of gripping boards hinged together, a clamping member secured to one of said gripping boards, a clamping member pivotally secured to said rst-mentioned clamping member so as to rotate in a plane parallel thereto, and a set screw adjustably connected to said secondmentioned clamping member.

5. In a device of the class described, the combination with a hanger provided with a hook at its upper end and a cross bar at its lower end, said cross bar having an eye at each end thereof, of a pair of suspending members pivotally connected together at their upper ends, and threaded through said eyes near their lower ends, and a creaser secured to each suspending member at its lower end, said creasers each comprising a pair of gripping boards hinged together, a stationary clamping member secured to one of said gripping boards, a movable clamping member pivotally secured to said stationary clamping member so as to rotate in a plane parallel thereto, a facing plate on the other of said gripping boards, and a set screw on said movable clamping member adapted to bear against said facing plate.

6. The combination with a plurality of gripping members adjustablyV connected to gether, of a hanger for supporting said members, slidingly connected to said members and adapted to spread said members apart.
