ICE CREAM CUTTER. APPLICATION FILED JAN. 24, 1910.
Patented Oct. 11, 1910.
I'm; NORRIS PETERS ca \VASNINGION, p, c
ATENT FFICE' ICE-CREAM CUTTER.
To all whom it may concern- Be it known that I, WILLIAM A. HUTCI-II- SON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Buchanan, in the county of Berrien and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ice-Cream Cutters, of which the following is a specificatlon.
My present invention -is an ice cream cutter adapted for use in connection with ice cream cans for the purpose of cutting an excess of cream from the spoon, ladle, mold, or other article used to take the cream from the can.
This invention differs from my application No. 462398, filed November 13, 1908, in the manner of securing the cross wire at its ends whereby it cannot come free.
As illustrated in the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a top view of the device. Fig. 2 is a fragmentary horizontal section of the completed device. Fig. 3 is a similar view illustrating the first bending of the ends of the wire, and, Fig. 4: is a vertical section therethrough.
Referring specifically to these figures, the sheet metal band 5, which is in one-piece, and formed to fit within the upper open end of an ice cream can, is provided at its upper edge with an outstanding circular flange or rim 6, and just beneath said flange or rim with an internal circularly extending rib or bead 7 resulting ina channel or recess 8 upon its outer surface. Said band is also provided with openings through its rib or bead 7, alined across the band at one side of its point of greatest diameter. These openings receive the ends 9 of the cross-wire 10,

which ends are first bent, as shown in Fig. 3, in a direction of lesser diameter of band 5. Then by grasping these bent ends 9 and rotating the wire 10 in the band openings, said ends are moved in the direction of greater diameter of the band and, after binding to a certain degree against the surface thereof, become locked in the channel or recess 8. Thus the rod is not only locked against displacement but is arranged in such manner that its ends do not interfere with the ready insertion of the band 5 in the ice cream can as before described.
It will of course be understood that the ends 9 of the wire may be subsequently soldered in the channel or recess if it is deemed expedient.
I claim:
A device of the character described comprising a one-piece thin metallic band formed to fit within the upper edge of a can entirely therearound, and having a projecting rim atits upper edge and an internal rib below said rim resulting in an outer recess, and provided with opposite openings through said rib alined across the same at one side of its point of greatest diameter, and a cross wire extending through said openings and having bent outer ends lying Within said recess toward the point of greatest diameter of said can.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM A. HUTCI-IISON.
Vitnesses:
