To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, HORACE WYNDHAM Room, a subject of the King of England, residing at South Kensington, London, England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Machines for \Vashing Plates or other Tableware, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to machines for washing plates or other table-ware, such for example as cups and saucers knives and forks etc. It is also capable of washing spoons.
In the accompanying drawings, which illustrate one construction of washing machine according to this invention :Figure 1 shows the machine in side elevation; F ig. 2 is a plan projected from Fig. 1, with portions of the upper part of the machine removed, to display the interior of the holder the articles within it and sliding partitions such as are hereinafter referred to: and Fig. 3 is an end view corresponding with Fig. 1 and with the removable lmlder'partly withdrawn from its place.

In this example, the closed box or container A is mounted on trunnions A A in standards B. The trunnions are a little above the longitudinal axis of thebox or container.

The sides of the holder (1 are corrugated as at (P, Fig. 2, and D is a sliding partition engaged by the corrugations to separate the layers of different articles in the holder.

J. The shaft G is mounted in one of thestandards B see Fig. 2, so that the crank is on the inside of the standard'and the wheel H on the outside. From the crank J a connecting rod K extends up to a pin L on the exterior of the container.
Rotation of the wheel H causes the connecting rod to first elevate say that end of the container which is to the left of the observer viewing Figs. 1 and 2, and then to depress that end and to elevate the opposite end; between the completion of the movement of the container in one direction and the commencement of its movement in the reverse direction, there is a slight pause as the crank arm passes the dead-center, and it is during this pause that the water, just previously held up by centrifugal action in the highest end of the container, descends rapidly through the sides of the holder to the lower end, which immediately thereafter becomes the higher end, and so the process of passing the washing water rapidlythrough the contents of the holder C is con- ;'tinued. The trunnion A is hollow and closed at that end of it which abuts against the face of the container and a supply of water can .be led into the trunnion through the pipe M. There may be branches M M from the hollow trunnion terminating in perforated extensions M within the box or container. The position at which the perforated extensions M are placed is such that when the box or container is horizontal the extensions will be at the highest level in the holder C. I Consequently when the box or container is horizontal and when therefore the washing water is in the bottom thereof, fresh water can be sprayed through the extensions M so as to rinse the plates, and this rinsing water will not mingle with the original washing water before passing over the plates inasmuch as the washing water is at the bottom of the box or container while the rinsing water enters at the top. To prevent any excessive accumulation of water within the container the trunnion A may be hollow throughout, to serve as an overflow. Further the container may be put into and held in an inclined position in-cases in which it is desired that the washing liquid should be caused toflowclear of the holder 0 before the latter is lifted out.

What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A Washing machine of the character described, comprising an oscillating box or container for the articles to be washed,
fitted with a watertight lid, and means for holding the articles .to be washed within the central portion of the container and spaced away from the ends thereof.
2. A washing machine. of the character described comprising in combination an oscillatable box or container for the articles to be washed, trunnions thereon, one of which trunnions is hollow, a support for said trunnions, a pipe for supplying water into the hollow trunnion, branch pipes leading from said hollow trunnions and, having extensions within the box, the said extensions being arranged within the uppermost part of the central portion of the box for the purpose set forth, and a holder removably' arranged Within the central portion of the box.
