This invention relates to dishwashers and refers more specifically to a container adapted to produce a cascading effect of water on the articles to be washed.
An object of the present invention is to provide an efiicient dishwasher of simple design which shall be easy to manufacture and to use.
Another object is to provide a dishwasher extremely economical of soap and water.
Another object is to provide a dishwasher adapted to be operated by hand or by motor power.
Another object is to provide an efficient dishwasher which is easily portable and adapted for use with existing plumbing instead of requiring its own supply and drain pipes.
Other objects will become apparent from the following specification:
In accomplishing the objects of the present invention it was found desirable to provide a frame and a hollow body adapted to revolve in the frame, a body cover, a discharge spout, and means for holding the contents of the body in place. The body revolves about a horizontal axis.
In operation, the articles to be washed are placed in the body with several inches of hot soapy water. The cover is fixed in place and a few revolutions of the body washes the contents. The discharge cap is removed and the water run out by inverting the body.
The invention will appear more clearly from the following detailed description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings showing, by Way of example, preferred embodiments of the inventive idea.

Figures 12 and 13 show a washer in place in the sink, in upright and inverted positions respectively. In these figures the body is a cylinder adapted to revolve end over en Figure 14 is a section through a differently constructed washer.
Figure 15 is a side view of the washer shown in Figure 14.
Referring to Figure 1, the frame 14 consists I of a baseplate I5 and standards I6 terminating in pillowblocks I! formed with a lower half "18 and upper half I9, held together by bolts 20. The body 2| carries trunnions 22, 23 which are journaled in the pillowblocks. Trunnion 23 ex tends beyond the pillowblock in order to provide a shaft for a crankhandle 01' wheel 24 and handle 25 adapted to effect revolution of the body on the trunnions.
The cover 26 forms a waterproof closure of the top opening of the body and to assure this tightness a gasket 2! (Figures 4 and 10) is fixed to the rim of the body opening. A hole in the cover leads into a discharge spout 28 mounted on the cover. Obviously, the discharge spout may be located elsewhere in the container. The spout may be threaded and is closed by a threaded cap 29 and washer 30. The cover is held in place by hinges 3i and clamps 32 (Figures 1, 2 and 3).
The body is thus suited to be revolved end over end by the handwheel, as indicated by arrows in Figure 2. When the body is inverted and the cap removed as in Figure 13, the water runs of! through a hole 33 in the frame H! as indicated by dotted lines in Figures 1, 2, 3, 12 and 13.
Figures 4, 5 and 6 show a dish basket 34 of corrosion resisting sheet metal, wire or wood construction and very open design. The basket should slip easily into the body, but snugly enough to have no substantial movement relative to the body when the cover is clamped down and the body revolved.
Transverse members 35 divide the basket interior substantially into a number of extremely open vertical compartments for dishes. Extension coil springs 36 or other stretchable flexible means extend from one end of the basket to the other above the dishes and in contact with them, preventing displacement when the body is revolved. Springs 36 are fastened permanently at one end 31 and by a catch 38 at the other end.

The extreme economy of hot water and soap, will be particularly appreciated where these P s are'less plentiful, and the same users will appreciate "manual operation of the device.
