To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DANIAL AARON CLAW- son, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of W aynesville, in the county of Dewitt and State of Illinois, have invented a new and ln'iproved lVire Fence, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of the invention is to provide a new and improved wire fence formed of line wires stretched from post to post, and connected with each other by wire stays fastened to the line wires by twisting the ends of each stay wire around the top and bottom line wires and doubling up portions of the stay wire and bending the same around the line wires intermediate the top and bottom line wires, so that the wire stay extends on opposite sides of the intermediate line wires, the fence being preferably built with the aid of a wire fence machine, such as shown and described in the application for Letters Patent of the United States, Serial No. 500,448. filed by me under even date herewith.
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding )arts in all the views.

The top line wire A, the bottom line wire B and the intermediate line wires C are stretched in the usual manner from post to post, and the said line wires are connected with each other at intervals by wire stays D, each of which has its lower end D twisted around the bottom line wire B while the connection between the stay D and the intermediate line wires C is formed by in Specification of Letters Patent.

tegral doubled up portions D bent around the intermediate line wires C, as plainly indicated in Fig. 2, the upper end D of the stay being twisted around the top line wire A.
In making the fence, the wire for the stay is first twisted around the bottom line wire B and then the wire is doubled up at points adjacent to the intermediate line wires 0, to form the doubled up portions D passed around the rear of the intermediate line wires C, and then transversely in a forward direction around the intermediate line wires C to securely fasten the stay to the intermediate line wires. The upper end of the wire for the stay is finally twisted around the top line wire A, so that the several line wires are firmly connected with each other, and an exceedingly StIOIlg' and durable connection is had between the wire stay and the line wires, especially by the doubled up portions bent around the intermediate l-ine wires in the manner described, to prevent the stay from slipping lengthwise of the line wires. As the intermediate line wires C are bound in the stay D against up and down movement by the doubled up portions D it is evident that an exceedingly strong and durable wire fence is produced.
As shown in Fig. 3, a reinforcing wire E connects with the lower portion of the wire stay D, and this reinforcing wire E has its lower end E twisted around the bottom line wire B, the reinforcing wire also passing through the eye formed by the middle of the doubled up portion D engaging the two lowermost intermediate line wires C. The upper end of this reinforcing line wire E is twisted around the second intermediate line wire 0. In making this kind of fence, the end E of the reinforcing wire E is first attached to the bottom line wire 13, and the reinforcing wire is passed through the eye of the doubled up portion D of the next intermediate line wire C, and then the two wires D and E are twisted, and this operation is repeated between the intermediate line wires, and the upper end of the reinforcing wire E is finally twisted as at E onto the middle intermediate line wire C.
As illustrated in Fig. 4, the reinforcing wire F is attached to the wire stay D in the same manner as shown in Fig. 3, except that the reinforcing wire F is connected with the stay throughout the entire height thereof, the lower end F being twisted around the bottom line .wire B and the upper end F being twisted around the top hne wire A,
but the reinforcing wire F passes throughbut otherwise the construction is the same as above described in reference to Figs. 1, 2, 3 and 4.
As shown in Figs. 6 and '7, the wire stay G is looped around each intermediate line wire C, as indicated by the loop G, and then a doubled up portion G is formed, bent transversely to the front of the intermediate line wire (see Fig. 7) the same as the doubled up portion D above described.
Having thus described my invention, 1 claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. A wire fence, comprising stretched line wires, a wire stay connecting the line wires with each other, the wire stay having doubled up portions each looped around a corresponding line wire, each doubled up portion forming an eye, and a reinforcing wire passing through the eye and twisted with the wire stay.
2. A wire fence, comprising stretched line wires, a wire stay connecting the line wires with each other, the stay having doubled up portions looped around a corresponding line wire and forming an eye, and a reinforcing wire connected at its ends with line wires and passing through the said eyes.
3. A wire fence, comprising stretched top,
oottom and intermediate line wires, a wire adjacent line wires and passing through the eye of the doubled up portion.
4. A wire fence, comprising stretched top, bottom and intermediate line wires, a wire stay having twisted ends engaging the said top and bottom line wires and having spaced doubled up portions intermediate the said twisted ends and looped around the said intermediate line wires, the said doubled up portions forming eyes, and a reinforcing wire twisted around the wire stay between adjacent. line wires and passing through the eye of a doubled up portion, the twisted ends of the reinforcing wires engaging the top and bottom line wires.
5. A wire fence, comprising stretched line wires, a wire stay connecting the line wires with each other, the wire stay having doubled up portions, each looped around a corresponding line wire, and a reinforcing wire connected with the line wires and connected with the said stay at the doubled up portions.
