end State of Ciilitornie, lieve invented ai tainer, of which the following e, specifivtation. .Y I
The mainV object ofthe present invention is to provide ineens for protecting the vpoint of ziypencil, for exeniplewhen the pencil is being carried in the pocket.
Another object of the invention is to provide Ineens for retaining` thelpencil in tln` 'pocket or to prevent accidentel dislotlgnient ot' the pencil while in the pocket.
Other objects ot the invention will be The accompanying. drawings illustrate the invention end'i'e'iierring thereto liigurc l is zi' sideelevzition of the'pencil with the protector thereon. Fig..2 is u similar View with the-rubber friction ring' removed. Fig. isa isimilar view showing the protector in. section. Fig. vlg-is :i similarview showing the tor exposing the point. Fig.- 5 is ain end eleviitionzof the pencil protector troni the point transverse section through the rubber'friction ring.
l y.designates e pencil, and 2 the point thereof. The point protector or guard coinpris'es a sleeve or tubular member 3 adapted trictionull retaining means 4 for holding it in' position'on the pencil and with spring 1iigers or velastic gu'zirfll ineens 5 extending/longitudinally from the Sleeve und adapted to extend over the pointl'of the pencil to protect the seme. The elastic fingers or guards 5 are formed us extensi.onsfrom the tube 3 and preferably taper to ev point. et their ends, so tl'iat'tliey will tend to assui'ne ii position as shown in Fig. 5' in which the all meet at :i common point beyond the point of the end oil the pencil. Sleeve or tubular member 3 has an annular. bend 6 et the base'of the fingers 5 and 'preferably two annuler beads 7 in its'upper end, the portion of the sleeve between these beads Y'forming e neck to reot' soft rubber, which tits or snaps onto this neck. This neck portion of the sleeve is cut elastic ring l squeezes or penetrates through position or lwhen the pencil ie not in vuse' the piotcctoi will be in the position shown in Figs. l'to 3, the tubular incuibcr 3 being slipped to the lower ond of the pencilj so tlint the spring lingers .icxt-end beyond the pencil point 2 undclose on one another to torni :i cage or guard for the pencil point,.
preventing breakage' thereof. When the pencil is lo be used, the tubular member 3 is slipped upn'urdly upon the pencilzbody 1, suy, to position shown in full lines in Fig. Il, exposing the point 2 of 'the pencil for use, tbe fingers 5 at this time being expended so us 4to embrace the body l of the pencil. In. this positionllie protector forms :i convenient holder .torthe pencil enabling itto be grasl'ied und manipulated by the fingers of the hunch 0r if desired., the protector may be slid upwardly to position shownl in dotted' lines in Fig. t enabling the rubber ring 4: to he used :is :in eraser. In any Iof these positions the friction of the seid rubber ring on the body' 1 of the pencil 'serves to hold the protector in the position in which it has been placed'. i With theprotector in normal position shown in Figs. l to 3, the pencil may be placed point uppermost in the' pocket and the enlargement or ring 4 then serves as. a utird or retainer to prevent accidentel disoflginent of vthe pencil from the pocket.v
Whatl claim is: -i l. A pencil protector consistiri of e tubuler member adapted to surroun' the pencil, elastic fingers extending longitudinally from seid tubular member and formed to normell close ony one another to protect the pencil point, :indineens for frictionelly retaining the said tubular member on the pencil, seid Aioni ineens consistingof erubber rin surround y ing the tubular member-,seid tu uler member being slotted to enable engegement'o the rubber ring with the-body of the pencil.
2. A pencil protector consisting ofe tubular-member adapted to slide on e pencil, seid tubular member being slit neer its entl to tornie plurality of fingersg the said tubuler.
