Description

To all whom it may concern:
una, PATENT! @FF-10E@ HAR-BY P. SARCHETT, 0F NGWATA, OKLAHGNIA.V Y
le it known that. I, HARRY P. SAncHifii'r, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of i\;ow:-ta. in the county of Nowata and VState of Oklahoma, have invented a new and Improved Sash-Hanger, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description. This inventionrelates to sash hangers for movably supporting storni sashes,` screen frames and thelike, and has reference more particularly to adevice of this class coinprising hanger brackets adapted to be secured to a screen frame, and having pivots, and socket nienibersadapted to be secured to a window frame and havino'lslots extended intermediate their ends, to edigcs of the inembei's, to permit the introduction of the pivots inte the slots. y
The object of the invention is to provide simple, strong and durable hangers, by means of which storm sashes, screen frames, and similar devices can be mounted iny position in window frames, which can be manufactured inexpensively, which caiibe applied to the'window frame from the inside of theV building, which are adapted to be protected froii the weather by the window frame itself, thereby obviating rust streaks. or other distgurements of the building, and by means of which the frames can be pivotally and removably mounted in place.
Theinvention consists in the constiuction and combination of parts to be more fully described hereinafter and particularly set forth in the claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanyo nig drawings, forming a part of this speci-v fication, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views, and in which- Figure 1 is a front elevation of the upper part of a window frame showing a screen frame mounted in place therein, by means .of my invention, parts of the Window'frame and the screen frame being broken away; Fig. 2 is an enlarged vertical section of the upper part of a window frame, showing a screen frame mounted in position by means of my hangers; Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the socket member of a hanger; Fig. l is a perspective view of a hanger bracket; and Fig. 5 is an enlarged transverse section on the line 5-5 of Fig. :2.
Before proceeding to a more detailed eX- planation. of my invention, it should be clearly understood thatv the hangers can be Specification of Letters Patent.l "Patented' Sept.V 27, 1910. Application filed April 5, 191,0. `Serial No. 553,638:- l
used for mounting in position in window frames and other structural openings, screen frames, storm sii-shes, or otherV like devices, which it is desired to support pivotally and removably at. the openings. The parts of the hangers are preferably fashioned from sheet metal or similar material, .by stamping and bending.
' Certain of thedetails of construction forni no part of the invention, and can be altered in accordance with' individual preference.
and' special conditions,V without. departingr from the underlying spirit Aof the invention. i Referring more particularly' to the drawings, I have shown for example, a window frame 10, having the usual blind stop 11, against which the screen frame 12 rests. I employ socket members 3, consisting of a body plate 14, having at' one end a laterally disposed liang'e 15, and at the other end an` ol'set flange 1G, the {ianges having openings 1T and 18 respectively, intended for the ieception of retaining screws by means ofy which the'socket member is mounted in posi? tion. At the inner edge, the body plate has La laterally disposed flange 19, therwidth of which corresponds to the degree of otl'setting v of the flange I6. f The body plate has formed therein a slot 20, the rear edge of which is rounded, and which has a lower, rounded bearing end Q1, and an upper rounded end 22. The slot has an extension Q3 to the forward edge of the body plate, that is, to the edge opposite the flange 19, for a purposewhich will appear hereinafter.
vI employ hanger brackets 24: consistingv of a `main plate `25 provided with screw y holes 26. The plate has a laterally disposed `A 3 fiange or arm' 2T, provided, near the end, with an opening 28, in which is arranged the extremity of a pivoty or trunnion 2S). The latter has the extremity 30 riveted in the y open-ing 2S, so that it is securely mounted in place. At the free end, it has a laterally extended head 3l.
` The pivots Q9 of the hanger brackets are received in the slots 20ct the socket nieinbers, to mount the screen plates pivotally in place. The pivots are introduced into the slots through the extensions 23 of the same. lVhen the pivots rest atvthe lower bearing ends 21 of the slots, the screen frame can be swung outwardly and inwardly, pivotally, as is indicated in Fig. 2. When the screen is swung inward against the blind stop 11, the lower edge ofthe screen rides upon the lou-ei` pai-ti of the Windowr frame,
so that the upper portion of the screen frame is raised, and the `pivots are'caused to ride upward'in the slots into the-upper extremities 22 thereof, ivliei'e they areV securely` retained in place, andfprevent the opening of the screen` frame. f
The socket members and tlieliangei' brackets are securely mounted in position by means of suitablescreivs or the` like. `The hanger brackets are mounted in place at tlie upper corners of the screen frame, with the ai'iii QT'fpi-ojectiiig inwardly-with respect to the ywindow. The socket men'ibersare located iii the upper corners of the AWindow franie,v at the blind stop7 the flanges 15 being located against the liorizoiita-l'upper iiieiii-` ber, and the flanges 1G against tlie side niembers. v Iii tliis way the Vsocket members are located Within tlic window frame, andare, to a large extent, protected from the, iiitluence of the weather;
Having tlius described niy inventiom'l Lclaiiii as new, and desire tosecure by Letters Patent: y Y Y l. The combination ivitli a Window frame, and a screen frame, of socketmembers secured in the corners of the Window i'aiiie Land each foriiiedof a plate ofset adjacent to one Vend to forni a iiaiige and provided at itsrotlier end with a lateral flange, Vsaid flanges being apeitured, ther plate being Y `socket member adapted to be secured to a adjacent to one endl t0 oriiiA a flaiigenand ,Window frame and formed vof a plate offset provided atitsetlier end and atene-side v with lateral flanges, the side llange being of a width equal tothe offsetof the plate and the flanges at the ends of the plate being apertured, the said plate being provided with an V'inclined slot havingirounded ends vand an extension leading out throughV the side of the plate opposite that having' the u flange., and hanger brackets adapted to be secured to a, screen frame and eacliformed of an apertured plate having a lateral llange projecting from one side'and provided with a headed pivot projecting at right angles from t-lie flange andadapted to enter the slot of the bracket nieiiibei. Y
3. Iiiv a device of the class described, a socket iiieiiiber adapted to beseeured to a iviiidoiiY frame and formed' of a plate offset adjacent to one end to foi-iii a flange extendiiigparallel ivith the plate and provided at tlie said offset, said flanges being apertured, ,n
the vplate. being provided vwith an inclinedv slot having rounded ends and an extension` leadingV out through one side edge of the plate, and ralianger bracket adapted to vbe secured to a screen frame and formed of an apertured plate having a lateral lflange at one side and provided with a headed ivot projecting at right angles'froiii saidV ange and adapted to enter vtlie slot of the socket member. y 1.
In testimony whereof I have signed my naine to this specification in the presence of tivo subscribing witnesses. f
p n Y liii-iiii'ir i). SARCHETT.
