This inventibii relates -to rail anchors and --s particularlyv to that. type of anchors which adapted to prevent the rail from creeping longitudinali)Y with respect to the ties.
The object ot' the invention'isthe provi sion of a device of this ifharacter wl'iich is. adapted to be applied to the railsin ei'igage+.,. ment with the ties without the use of -attachf ing bolts or of any fastening devices.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character which when applied to the rail andV forced into frictional engagement therewith, will have. V a twisting grip upon the rail, so to prevent its disengagement therefrom.
'ith the foregoing and other objects in view. the invention consists of certain novel features ,of construction, combination and arrangement of. parts, as will be more fully' described and particularly pointed ont in the appended claims.

On the opposite side of the body i of the attachnient adjacent the groove 8 is provided the rail 10 having its upper face notched or serrated as shown. At one side of the bod7 and arranged iinniediatelv below the groove is a downwardly projecting' 'foot 11 which has its lower end l2 vertically offset 'from the edge ot' the body so that the body will '.he spaced a suitable distance trom the tie .with the lower end 12 of the footv l1 engaging the tie whcreb` when the body forced toward the tie. the clip will turn on the railbasi G and cause a twisting grip to be formed.

The lower tace of the clip-is'piovided with a cylindrical projection lt). which enters the groove 8 and is adapted to travel therein. This projection is grooved, at 17, to receive the rib 9 and intermediate the proiection and the base flange, the clip is formed. with 'a notched channel way 18 which is a'dapted to receive the knotched rail 10. The notches of the rail 10 and the channel way' 18 form internieshing teeth which have yperpendicular faces uponone side but inclined faces upon the other, so that the clip will ride easil)y over them irr'one direction of movement and will be prevented t'roni movement in the opposite direction.
In the application ot' the device, the bod;7 Je is placed upon the under side ot' the rail with 'the flange 5 overhanging one edge of the base. The clip 1.3 is then placed in position loosellv and the whole device is then pushednp until the lower end of the foot en"- gages the tie. The clip i3 is then driven into place b v tapping the same with a hainmer, thuscausing the. teeth to interlock and to secure the flange 5 nponiv the rail. The. diagonal arrangement, ot' the groove 8 causes the clip 13 to tig'litendniion the base ofrthe rail and the twisting ofy the flange thereon' holds the device securely in position and prevents any creeping of 'the rail with respect to the tie.
