To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, KAMEJIRO WATANABE, a subject of the Mikado of Japan, and a resident of Seattle, in the county of King and State of lVashington, have invented a new and Improved Extension for Warming- Closets, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

The invention relates to stoves and ranges, and its object is to provide a new and improved extension for a warming closet or oven, such as are used on stoves or ranges, the extension being arranged to permit of conveniently folding it into the warming closet or oven when not in use and to move the extension into an active position to form an extension of the closet or oven. For the purpose mentioned, use is made of a pair of sides, slidable in the closet or oven, and adapted to pass through the door opening of the closet or oven, to rest on the door thereof, and a roller top mounted to slide on the said sides and adapted to fold in the closet or oven.

A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.

The stove or range A shown in Fig. l is provided at the top with a warming closet or oven B, having a door C adapted to swing up and down by the use of suitable hinges D, arranged on the lower end of the door, the latter when open being held in a horizontal position by brackets C formed on the door C and adapted to abut against the lower portion of the front B of the closet or warmer B, as plainly indicated in Fig. 2. The interior of the closet or oven B may be heated in any suitable manner, for instance, as shown in Fig. l, by the heat radiating from the smoke pipe E of the stove or range A and extending through the warming closet or oven B.

The extension for the closet or oven B consists essentially of the two sides F, F, adapted to rest on the door C when the latter is open, as plainly shown in Figs. 1 and 2, and on the inner or opposite faces of the sides F, F are arranged segmental guideways G for a roller top I-I to slide in, it being understood that the extension when in use is formed ofthe sides F, lF, the roller top H and the door C as the bottom. The roller top H is adapted to slide into guideways I formed inside of the closet B, and the sides F are adapted to slide transversely in the closet or oven B in guideways J and J of which the guideways J are preferab-ly attached to and form part of the guideways I, while the guideways J are arranged on the bottom of the closet or oven B, and are provided at their rear ends with angular offsets J 2, to limit the inward sliding movement of the sides F, F. IVhen the sides F, F are moved outward into the position shown in Figs. l and 2, then the upper ends of the guideways G form continuations of the front ends of the guideways I, so that the roller top H can be moved forward from its folded position in the guideways I into the guideways G and down the same to form a cover for the extension. When the sides F, F are moved into an outward position they are locked against accidental return movement by drop catches K, mounted on the guideways I to slide vertically with respect thereto and adapted to drop in the back of the rear upper ends of the sides F, F, as plainly indicated in Fig. 2.'

The roller top H is formed of slats H', connected with each other at their ends by links H2 which are of sufficient length to permit the slats to override each other, so that when the roller top I-I is folded up in the guideways I, the slats H rest face to face, as plainly indicated in Fig. 6, so as to take up very little room. Each slat swings up on the links into substantial parallelism with the preceding slat, when the preceding slat is cheeked in its movementY IVhen the roller top H is drawn out into active position then the slats I-I are extended so as to range one alongside the other in the direction of their width, as will be readily understood by reference to Figs. 1 and 2.

`When the several parts are in the position shown in Figs. l and 2 and it is desired to fold the extension within the warming closet or oven B, then the operator pushes the roller top II upward so as to Cause the same to pass out of the guideways Gr into the guideways I and to fold up therein face to face, as indicated in G. rIhe operator next pushes the drop catches K upward and then pushes the sides F, F inward on their guideways J, J until the sides F are Completely within the closet or oven B. The door C is now swung into a Closed position, as indicated in Fig. 4l. Then it is desired to provide the extension for the warming closet or oven B, then the door C is first swung open, the sides F, F are drawn out, after which the roller top H is drawn down from the guideways J to the guideways G, as previously mentioned.

From the foregoing it will be seen that the extension is very simple and durable in construction and can be readily moved into position for use or folded up in the Closet or oven B whenever it is desired to do so.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new7 and desire to secure byLet-ters Patent:

l. In Combination, a warming closet having a door adapted to swing up and down, and an extension for the eloset comprising a pair of sides slidable in the closet and adapted to pass through the door opening of the closet or oven to rest on the door thereof, and a roller top mounted to slide on the said sides and adapted to fold in the closet or oven.

2. In combination, a warming closet having a door adapted to swing up and down, and an extension for the closet comprising a pair of sides slidable in the closet and adapted to pass through the door opening of the closet or oven and to rest on the door thereof, a roller top mounted to slide on the said sides, and guideways fixed in the Closet or oven and adapted to be engaged by the said roller top to fold the latter within the closet.

3. In combination, a 'warming closet having ay door adapted to swing up and down,

and an extension for the Closet, Comprising av roller top, two sets of guideways for the roller top, one set of guideways being fixed in the closet or oven, and a. pair of sides carrying the other set of guideways, the said sides being slidable in theI closet or oven and adapted to rest on the door thereof when the extension is in use.

4. In combination, a warming closet having a door adapted to swing up and down, and an extension for the closet, Comprising a pair of sides slidable in the closet or oven and adapted to pass through the door opening of the Closet or oven and to rest on the door thereof, a roller top mounted to slide on the said sides, guideways fixed in the closet or oven and adapted to be engaged by the said roller top to fold the latter within the Closet.y and means for locking the sides in extended position.

5. In combination, a warming closet having a door adapted to swing up and down into horizontal position and to be held in such position, and an extension for the said Closet and formed of a roller top and sides adapted to be folded into the closet or extended through the door opening.

In combination, a warming closet having a door adapted to swing up and down into horizontal position and to be held in such position, and an extension for the said closet and formed of a. roller top and sides adapted to be folded into the Closet. or oven through the door opening, the said door forming a support for the sides when the latter are extended.

In combination, a warming closet having a door adapted to swing up and down, and an extension for the Closet, Comprising a. roller top, two sets of guideways for the roller top, one set of guideways being fixed in the closet or oven, a pair of sides carrying the other set of guideways, the said sides being slidable in the closet or oven and adapted to rest on the door thereof when the extension is in use, and drop catches for engaging the said sides to locl the latter in an extended position.
