7 upon which the plow share may be adjustably positioned in order to dispose the same in the desired vertical angle according to the nature of the work which is to be per- 7 formed by the implement.
The invention has for a further object the provision of a filling block which is adapted to prevent the accumulation of earth about the movable parts of the frame whereby the adjustment of the same is not hindered.
For a full understanding of the invention and the merits thereof, as well as to acquire a knowledge of the details of construction and the means for effecting the result, reference is to be had to the following description which Figure l is a perspective view of the improved frame; Fig. 2 is a detailed vertical section of the same.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the accompanying drawings by the same reference characters.
Referring to the drawings the numeral 10 designates a plow beam which is of tapered formation, the same being so constructed that the upper and lower faces thereof are of uniform width throughout the entire length of the same while the sides of the beam are decreased in width toward the forward end of the beam. Intermediately positioned against the beam 10 and clamped to the sides thereof are a pair of companion bars 11 which extend downwardly from the beam 10 and form the foot of the frame. The companion bars 11 are secured against the sides of the beam 10 by the provision of transverse bolts 12 and 13 which are respectively positioned across the upper and lower faces of the beam 10 and terminated outwardly of the sides of the companion bars 11 where they are retained in such poand accompanying drawings, in

sition by the provision of nuts or the like. The lower extremities of the companion bars 11 are reduced and of stepped formation, the shoulders lat of which are disposed in registered relation for the accommodation of the plow share thereagainst in order to adjust the same forwardly with respect to the frog 15. The frog 15 is engaged against the lower extremities of the com panion bars 11 against the forward edges of the same and held in such position by any suitable means, but preferably by a bolt 16 which extends rearwardly between the companion bars 11 and is provided with a washer 17 which engages against the rear edges of the companion bars 11 and supports the inner extremity of a coil spring 18 disposed about the bolt 16. The bolt 16 is threaded at its rear extremity for the reception of an adjusting nut 19, the same being provided with a curved lip 20 which accommodates the tapered extremity of a hand lever 21 employed for the purpose of rotating the adjusting nut 19 to regulate the tension of the spring 18.
The foot of the plow is supported by the provision of a brace 22 which comprises an elongated member being apertured at its lower extremity and pivotally engaged between the companion bars 11 at an intermediate point thereof and retained in such position by the provision of a pivot pin 23. The rear extremity of the brace 22 extends to the rear end of the beam- 10 where it is reduced to form a step 24 which is engaged against the rear extremity of the beam 10 and overlapped upon the upper face thereof where it is terminated in a threaded shank 25. The threaded shank 25 carries one end of a turn buckle 26 being engaged at its opposite or forward end to an eye bolt 27 which is loosely secured about the clamping bolt 12.
The handles 28 of the frame are seated in the tapered recesses disclosed in Fig. 1 in dotted lines, the deeper portions of the recesses being located adjacent the lower base of the beam 10 whereby the handles 28 are in a diverged position at their upper ends in order to dispose the same at a greater distance apart and to enable the operator to obtain a greater leverage in the guidance of the implement. The handles are thus positioned for the purpose of rigidly holding the same and are also held in position by the clamps 29 engaged across the outer faces thereof and retained in such position by the employment of bolts or the like.
The filling block employed comprises a flattened body portion 30 which is provided with a flange 31 extended along the forward edge of the same and beyond the sides thereof, the body portion 30 being adapted for engagement between the companion bars 11 above the lower end of the brace 22 and beneath the beam 10 so as to dispose the flange 31 across the forward edges of the companion bars 11 and to thereby prevent the accumulation of earth above the brace.
The means employed for locking the filling block 30 in position comprises the formation of a transverse notch 32 across the upper edge of the body portion 30, the notch 32 being adapted for engagement about the clamping bolt 13 while the lower extremity of the filling block 20 is provided with a leaf spring which engages against the upper face of the brace 22 and thereby forces the filling block 30 upwardly against the bolt 13 and the under face of the plow beam 10. The position of the spring 33 is such as to admit of the adjustment of the foot by reason of the spaced position of the rear or free end of the spring 33 through the lower beveled edge of the block 30. It will be noted from this construction that the angle of the foot of the plow is adjusted by loosening the clamping bolts 12 and 13 and contracting the upper end of the foot toward the rear extremity of the brace 22 by the movement of the turn buckle 36 and of again tightening the clamping bolts 12 and 13.
A filling block 30 is provided for the purpose of preventing the choking of the frame by filling the space between the companion bars so as not to admit of the excess of dirt or clay which would otherwise pack between the same and prevent the free adjustment of the brace 22.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is 1. A plow frame including a beam, a pair of companion bars engaged against the opposite sides of said beam, a brace pivotally engaged between said companion bars adjacent their lower ends, said bars being secured to said beam, clamping bolts engaged against the upper and lower faces of said beams and carried by said companion bars, a block inserted between said companion bars above said brace, said block having a transverse notch for the reception of the lower of said clamping bolts and a spring carried upon the lower end of said block for retaining the same in an upward position against said clamping bolts.
A frame including a beam, companion bars engaged against the opposite sides of said beam and extended downwardly therefrom, a brace disposed between the lower ends of said companion bars and the rear end of said beam, a filling block positioned between said companion bars beneath said beam, a flange formed on said filling block to engage the forward edges of said companion bars, a spring located upon the lower end of said filling block for engagement against said bars to force said filling block upwardly, and a bolt transversely positioned through said companion bars beneath said beam, said filling block having a transverse notch for engagement about said bolt to retain said filling block in position.
A plow frame including a beam, a pair of companion bars depended from the opposite sides of said beam, a brace disposed between the rear end of the said beam and the lower end of said companion bars, said brace being engaged between said companion bars at their lower ends, a block inserted between said companion bars above said brace, clamping bolts engaged through said companion bars against the opposite edge of said beam, said block having transverse grooves formed in the upper face thereof for the reception of the lower of said clamping bolts and a spring carried upon the lower end of said block for engagement against said brace to retain the block in an upward position.
