To whom it may concern:

' Be it knownthat I, ARTHUR L. BROWN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Muskegon, in the county of Muskegon and State of Michi an, have invented certain new and usegil Improvements in Combined Soap Sticks and Brushes; and I do hereby declare that the followin is a full, clear, and exact description of t e same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

It is an object of this invention to aifor a construction wherebyeither the soap stick or shaving brush may be renewed in the connector or holder when injured or worn out, and in which both the soap stick and brush are, when not in use, entirely inclosed.

It is a further object of this invention to afford an exceedingly cheap, simple and durable construction adapted for universal ulsfi, and in which the parts are interchange a e.

The invention consists in the features hereinafter described and more fully pointed out and defined in the appended claims.

In the drawin Figure 1 is a central vertical sectional vlew of a device embodying my invention, and showing the soap stick and brush inlosed; Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same with the casings removed Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view of a modified form of soap stick and handle. Fig. 4 is a central longitudinal sectional view of a modified form of device embodying my invention illustrating a threaded soap stick screwed directly into a connector.

As shown in. the said drawing:The reference letter A indicates a connector provided in its opposite ends with screw threaded sockets, and in which are screwed respectively the brush head B, in which the brush material 6 is rigidly secured, and the head C of the soap stick a. Said connector and said heads may be made of metal or of celluloid or any suitable material, and the head C for the soap stick 0 is reamed out at its inner end to afford a larger internal diameter at said inner end than at its outer end, so that a soap stick when molded in place therein 'will be firmly retained, as shown in Fig. 1. Or, if desired, the head may be threaded or corrugated, as shown at C in Fig. 3, to rigidly engage the inner end 7 of the soap stick '0. The outer end of the brush head B extends beyond the socket and is shaped to afford a desirable finish for the brush. Y

The opposite ends of the connector A are threaded on the outer side to receive casings D, D, inclosing the soap stick and brush respectively. The casing D is shown swelled and rounded at its outer end to afford a possibly more convenient handle than the soap stick casing D. Said casings are provided with small apertures in their outer ends to permit dissipation of moisture from the brush and stick.

In the modification shown in Fig. 3 a handle A is provided with a threaded socket at one end adapted to receive a soap stick head C, which is interiorly threaded to receive in turn the soap stick 0'. Said soap stick 0 provided with stiffenin layers 0 c of suitable material is .threade at one end to engage directly in the head C.

As shown in the modification in Fig. 4, a connector A is provided, which ma be similar to connector A of Fig. 1, or 0 any preferred form, and is provided with threaded sockets on its opposlte ends, one of which is adapted to receive a brush head like brush head B of Fig. 1, while the other is adapted to receive. a soa stick 0 preferably provided with sti ening layers 0 c, and threaded at one end to directly engage in said socket. Any suitable casing or covering may be provided for said brush and soap stick as before described. The stiffening layers cj cg, are 'forthe urpose of strengthening thesoap stick an for protecting the same from contamination when in use, the same being composed preferably of stiff paper, and being stripped away as the soap stick is consumed.

The operation is as follows :-The connector A is so constructed that either the brush or the soap stick may be engaged in gaged in a head C or C, which is so shaped as to rigidly but detachably connect said soap stick with .the connector, or, if referred the soap stick may be threaded at one end, so as to be screwed directly-into the head 0 of Fig. 3, or it may be screwed directly into its socket, as shown in Fig. 4.

When the. casing D inclosing the brush 6 is removed the construction is identical in form and shape with an ordinary shaving brush, and may, of course, be usedin the same manner, the casing D serving as a handle. When 'using the soap stick the easing D of Fig. 1, or'the similar casin D of Fig. 3, is removed, and the brush casing D or the handle A, as the case may be, serves as a handle. Obviously, when through using the device, and. when both ends of the same have been properlycleansed and inclosed within their casings, they are then thoroughly protected.

Many of the details of construction may be varied, and I do not therefore purpose limiting my invention-otherwise than is necessitated-by the prior art.

I claim as my invention l. A device of the class described, embodying a ri id head having a closely wrapped cylindrical body of soap engaged therein at one end, and also engaging the wrapping and provided'on its outer side with threads, a connector having threaded sockets into one ofwhich said head is threaded, a brush secured in the other socket, and removable casings inclosing said soap stick and brush.

- v2. In a shaving brush, the combination with a connector having sockets of equal size in opposite ends thereof, of-a shaving1 brush removably threaded in one of sai sockets, 'the'other socket adapted to have a soap stick engaged therein, and means affording a handle for the brush.

3. The combination with a connector having a threaded socket in each end adapted to have a brush and a soap stick interchangeably engaged therein, of casings interchangeably engaging either end of said connector and inclosing the brush and soap stick.

4. In a device of the, class described, the combination with a connector socketcd and threaded internally at each end and threaded externally at each end, of heads adapted to thread into either socket, and casings adapted to thread onto either externally threaded part.
