INVENTOR OfiTog (Ya/r141 AT RNEY osaon a. CLARK, or NEWARK, new annsiir.
BLADE,
Specification of Letters Patent. Patg ted Aug. 16, 1910;
Application filed-August 12, 1909. Serial No. 512,499.
To all whom it mag comm? Be it known that I, Osnon A CLARK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented certa" new ,and useful Improvements in Blade and.
I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to :which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to an improved blade for use in safety razors, and is particularly designed for those razors 1n which the blade is flexed or bent parallel with its cutti edges, and held in a holder in this curve osition while used 9 for shaving. The 'lade is made so that it bends easier than theformer style" of blades, and also is less @apt to crack ,or break when bent.
' after my new desi n cuttin The invention is llustrated in the accompanyingfirawiiigs, in which- Figure 1 is a face view of a blade made of blade, and Fig. 2 is a'sectiqn taken etween one end, of the, blade shown in Fig. 1,,andthe slot in the blade, butslightly enlarged. The blade is made of steel, -and has the edges 11 arranged on parallel sides. The b ade 1s of the formknown as wafer blades and is designed to bent or curved transversely, so that the cutting e es are at an angle to each other instead 0 being in line. When so bent, blades have been known to break'frequently, and the loss on this accbunt is considerable. The blades are of'hard metal and are brittle, the greateststrain comin about at'the longitudinal center of the Ma e where the contraction on one surface. and the tension on the vopposi surface is greatest.
lprovide my blade more flexible ortion 1:2,
with a thinned or which can be put in afterward,
, stance.
laced in theb ade when it is made or can be by grinding, for lnp In blades of any kind this thin or more flexible art made inte ral with the rest of the bla e can be utilize to facilitate the bending of thebladei This form of blade with the thinned portion canbe made solid orsupplied with a perforation or perforations, as at 13, according to the make of razor in which it is to be used.
3 Having thus described myinvention what I claim gs 1. A blade made of a single sheet of flexible material'having parallelcuttin edges, and havinga thinned portion extending through it between, the cutting edges. 7 I v t 2. A blade having parallelqcu'ttin and'havi a thinned ortion extenrfing etween, an substantial y parallel to its cutting ed es. L
3. A lade formed of flexible metal having parallel cutting edges and with an inte-' gral but more flexible portion extending through it between the cutting ed es, the
more flexible portion being thinner t an the rest of the blade.
4. A blade formed of flexible metal having parallel cutting edges, said blade having a strip more flexible th'anthe body portion of the blade, the strip being integral with the body. portion and parallel .with and between, the cutting edges the'mor proper. y
5. A flexible razor blade with cutting edges on opposite sides having a thinned portion between" the cutting edges to make the blade more flexible. I
6. A flex'ible razor cutting .edges said blade being provided with a In testimony, that I claim the fore 'oing,
"Ijhave hereunto set my hand this'llt day of August 1909. I 1 a w I QSROE A.1GLARK- Witnesses-i y Wm-HJCaMriEnn, L
flexible strip being thinner than the .blade i I 80 y blade having parallel v ound portion onboth sides to thin the bla s between the cutting edges.
