RAZOR ATTACHMENT.
Specification of Letters letent.
Patented Dec. 2?, 1910.
Application filed May 19,. 1910. Serial No. 562,235.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDDIE P. TRUESDALE, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Camden, in the county of Kershaw and State of South Carolina, have invented certain'new and useful Improvements in Razor Attachments, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to guards for razor blades, and the princi al object of the sameis to provide a guar for the razor blade which permits the blade to be used without danger of cutting the user and in which the blade may be adjusted to present the cutting edge at the desired angle for shaving.
In carrying out the objcctsot' the invention generally stated above it will be understood, of course, that the essential features thereof are necessarily susceptible of changes in details and structural arrangements, one preferred and practical embodiment of which is shown in the accoi'npanying drawin wherein z-' i v re 1 is a perspective view of a razor the b ade of which is equipped with the improved guard. Fig. 2 is a detail perspective view of the guard. Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view taken on the line 33, Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a similar view taken on the line M, Fig. l. The improved guard forming the subjectmatter of this invention is especially adapted for use in connection with the well known .to a handle.
'Referringto the accompanying drawings by numerals, it. will be secn that the improved guard compriscs a flat plate '1 that forms a rest for the blade 2' of a razor, said i'cst being slightly concavcd and having an upstanding wall 3 at. one longitudinal edge that. is concavcd to provide a holding and guiding groove for the back of the razor blade. The upper portion of said wall has the flanges 4 projecting therefrom, said flanges being resilient and adapted to yieldably engage the blade. A neck 5 projects laterally from the wall 3 between said flanges l, said neck connecting with a plate is provided with comb teeth 8.
The structure as described is preferably an integral one and may be formed of steel or sheet metal. Said structure provides a rest for one side of the blade, ripping flanges which yieldably bear upon the other side of the blade to retain the same resting on the said plate and the back thereof is the grooved" wall 3, a plate 6 for shielding the upper side of the cutting edge of the blade,
.and the teeth 8 which project across the cut- I angle'to the surface beingv shaved. Ob-
vionsly, a reverse movement of the screw 10 removes the same trom binding contact with the blade, and the resiliency of the plate 6 returns the comb teeth to their original positlon.
\Vhat I claim as my invention is A safety attachment for a razor blade formed from spring metal comprising a longitudinal blade rest, a flange formed upon one side of said rest. apair of end flanges formed upon the other side of saidrest and ada ted to clamp said blade between said si e flanges. a depending tongue formed between said pair of end flanges, a longitudinal plate formed at the lower end of said tongue, and provided with a series of comb teeth, and a set screw passing through said tongue and contacting with the razor blade to adjust said late.
In testimony whereof Iliereunto aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
EDDIE P. TRUESDALE.
