Description

J. W. PEYTON.
TOWEL RACK APPLICATION FILED MAR. 23, 1910.

V p- I Inventor JOHN W. PEYTON, OF WASHINGTON, INDIANA.
TOWEL-RACK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 9, 1910.
Application filed March 28, 1910. Serial No. 551,973.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JoHN W. PEYTON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Washington, in the county of Daviess and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Towel-Rack, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a towel rack and it consists in the novel construction and arrangement of its parts as hereinafter shown and described.
The object of the invention is to provide a simple device of the character indicated which is adapted to effectually hold a towel at one end portion thereof whereby the other end portion is free for use.
With this object in view the rack includes a yoke preferably formed from resilient wire or rod and having at its ends clamping members adapted to cooperate with the intermediate portion of the yoke for holding the towel in position upon the rack. The yoke is provided with a bail whereby the device may be hung upon an appropriate support.
In the accompanying drawings ;Figure 1 is a perspective view of the towel rack with a towel supported thereby. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of one of the clamping members of the rack cut on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
The towel rack consists of an approximately U-shaped yoke 1 formed from resilient wire or rod and having the upper portions of its branches inwardly bowed as at 2. From the bowed sections 2 the end portions of the yoke are bent outward and downward as at 3 then inward as at 4: over the intermediate portion of the said yoke. The extremities of the ends of the yoke 1 are bent laterally as at 5 and extend transversely across the intermediate portion of the said yoke. Blocks 6 are pivotally mounted upon the extremities 5 of the ends of the yoke l and at their lower ends are provided with grooves 7 which are adapted to cooperate with the intermediate portion of the yoke 1 in securing a towel in position upon the same.
A bail 8 is pivotally connected at its end by means of eyes 9 which receive the inbowed sections 2 of the end portions of the yoke l. Said bail is provided at a point intermediate of its end with a loop 10 which is adapted to receive a nail or other supporting device.
In application an end portion of a towel 11 is passed over the intermediate portion of the yoke l and the grooves 7 at the lower ends of the clamp blocks 6 are positioned upon the upper portion of the towel over the intermediate portion of the yoke .1. The resiliency of the sections 3 and 4 of the end portions of the yoke 1 is sufficient to hold the blocks 6 in frictional contact with the towel whereby the same is held in position upon the intermediate portion of the yoke. A towel if supported or confined at one end is free at its other end portion for use.
Having described the invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Let ters-Patent is A towel rack comprising a yoke formed from resilient material having at the upper portions of its branches inwardly bowed sections which are continued into outwardly disposed sections and inwardly disposed extremities, a bail having eyes which pivotally receive the inwardly bowed sections of the branches of the yoke and which is normally held in spaced relation to the intermediate portion of the yoke by said bowed sections, and a block pivotally attached to each of these inwardly disposed extremities and located between the bail and the intermediate portion of the yoke and adapted to cooperate with the intermediate portionof the .yoke to form clamps.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto aflixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
JOHN W. PEYTON.
