Description

UNITED ,STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM H. BOTT, 0F YORK, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN CORN-FLOWS.
Specification forming part of Letters PateDtNO. 96,667, dated November 9, 1869.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it'known that I, WM. H. BoTT, of the city and county of York, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Improved Corn-Plow; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the acco'mpan yin g drawings, making a part of thisl specification, in whichv Figure 1 is a side view. Fig. 2 is a top view, a portion of the cross-beam having been broken away. Fig'. 3 is a section across one ot' the drag-bars.
The object of this invention is to construct a simple, light, and convenient plow adapted to cultivating, plowing corn, Sac., and which shall be readily adjustable to suit the work rcquired of it.
In the drawings, A represents a stout central beam, and B a stout cross-beam framed` at itscenter to the forward end of beam A. The tongue@` is connected to cross-beam B by means of two bent metallic arms, D D, bolted to the tongue at d l and articulated to `the cross-beam at c c. rI he handles E are attached to the beam A and supported by two rods or standards, F F, likewise attached to beam A.
GGGrare theplow-blades,attached to curved beams or drag-bars I I I, which are articulated to the front cross-beam, as shown in the section in Fig. 2. A curved brace, H, attached to the beam A, extends over the dragbars, and is fastened to them by a bent strap, L, bolted at m m, as shown in Fig. 3. The straps can be adjusted laterally by setting the bolts in different holes provided along the brace for the purpose, and shown in Fig. 2 at t' i.
N N are two guard-plates, which run alongside of the young corn and prevent the clods,
- 85e., from being thrown upon it. They are both attached to a curved bar, O, which extends up over the rear end oi' beam A, embracingit,
as shown in Figs. 1' and 2. and capable of being adjusted vertically with relation to it by setting the fastening-bolts in different holes 0 o o. The bar is bent outward from the lower edgeof the beam A, as seen in Fig. 2, and then extends gradually downward and inward to the guide-plates, the position of which will be seen from said drawings.
R R are two wheels or rollers, each. supported between curved double standards S S, connected with cross-beam B, as shown in Fig. 1. As the plow moves forward the wheels attached to the curved standards drag backward, but support the forward end ot' the instrument. t
Braces T T, extending from the handles to the ends of the curved bar H, may be employed to strengthen and support the handles, if desired.
Having thus described my invention, what [claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The curved standard (),when constructed with the lateral spread and with the series of holes o o 0 on each side, and employed in connection with the guards N N and beam A, substan tially as and for the purposes set forth.
2. The arrangement ot' the two wheels It R and curved standards S S, in connection with the cross-beam B, longitudinal beam A, dragbars I l, plows G G, cross-bar H, and handles E E, substantially as and for the purposes described.
