.' Specc'ation of Letters Patent.
yApplication filed-April 27, 1909. Serial N o. 492,597.
latenten .miv` 26, 1910.
To all whom if may concern.'
Be it known that I, PHILIP W. MOORE, a
citizen of the United States, residing at Evanston, in the county of Cook and State fixedly engaging a tie or sleeper on a rail-v Way rail for preventing longitudinal and transverse movement thereof when pressure is exerted thereon by the railway rail.
Other objects will appear from a detailed description of the invention, which consists of the features of. construction and combina tion of parts hereinafter described and ex-` plained.` y Y' A y `In the drawings, Figure 1 isa perspective view of-this combination tie plate and anticreeperyandjslilig. 2, a 'top or plan View thereof. n l" a Y 1, p
,y This improved. device" 'mpiises "a flat basewor bed plate 3, having a seriesiof transverse under` ribs 4, which,"`asindiated in Fig. l, are spaced apart andwed e-shaped so that their edges 5 may be embed ed. in the body of a tie or -sleeper for 'maintaining thesame in fixed position. i In use, however, it is not absolutely essentialthat these transverse ribs be employed, since other means are provided for permanently anchoring the gripping jaw 6 is formed on one side thereof in proximity to the outer edge 7, along 'which' are spike openings 8. The'tie plate on the opposite side has a movable clon ated gripping jaw diagonal guide-Way 10 formed in the base 3, 'the gripping jaw 9 having a lower portion 11 normally maintained Within-,said guide-way. 1
As shown, opposite 'spike openings 12 are formed through the base '3 and extending into the movable 'gripping jaw 9 for-the purpose of locking'the gripping jaw on the might be used Iwith equal efficiency; The opposite gripping jaw 9 is parallel With respect to the fixed gripping jaw 6, but they guide-way lOIlis angularly positioned With'f` `plate which serve to lock the movablefgrip ping jaw 9 against movement tending to 4relieve its grip on the rail base, but not- `against movement tending to ,increase itsv grip. This construction is highly desirable, -a-s it considerably increases theV track eiiiciency, the device serving as a combination rail Vanchor or anti-'Creeper and tie plate.
What I claim as new4 and desire to ,secure by Letters Patent is: i
l. In a tieplate and anti-creeper, a baseV plate provided on one side near. its edge with an integral gripping aw for grippingA one side of the rail base, and provlded near its opposite edge with a groove angularly disposed with respect tothe integral gripping jaw, in combination with a movable gripping jaw adapted to register with the groove -for gripping the other side ofthe rail base, said integra-l gripping jaw, angularly dis posed groove, -and movable gripping jaw ada ted to co-act for gripping the rail base,
the ase plate being provided. near the in- 'tegral gripping jaw with spike holes, and the base plate beingjprovided adjacent to the groove With .otherspike holes, and the movable grippingjaw ,being provided with elongated spike holes'adapted to register with said last named spike holes for receiving spikes adapted to hold the movable gripping jaw. firmly in-contact with Vthe rail base, all of said spikes engaging the tie, substantially yas described.
2. Ip a tie plate and "anti-creeper, a base plate provided on one side near its edge with an integral gripping jaw for gripping one side of the rail base, and provided near its opposite edge -with a groove angularly disposed with respect to the integral gripping jaw, in con'lbination with a movabler gripping jaw adapted to register with the groove for gripping the other side of the rail base, said integral grippingjaw, angu* larly disposed groove, and movable gripping jaw adapted to coact for gripping the y rail base, the base plate being provided near movablbe gripping jaw belng provided with elongated spike holes adapted to vregister with said last named spike holes for receiving spi-kes adapted to hold the movable gripping )avv firmly in Contact with the rail base, all of said spikes engaging the tie, and 10 said base plate being provided on its under side with means, as ribs,v for further engaging the tie, substantially as described.
