Be it known that I, HEINRICH WIENAND, a subject of the German Emperor, residing at Frankfort-on-the-Main, in Germany, have invented certain new and useful Composition for Use in Burning Artificial Teeth, of
"which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to the manufacture of artificial teeth, and more particularly to the composition of the mass on which the teeth are placed for the purpose of being burned.
According to the invention this mass is composed of kaolin, kieselguhr or quartz sand and particles of metal of high melting point, for example nickel or an alloy of nickel, saturated with carbon, the metal being mixed with the other ingredients in granular or other suitable form and size. The mixture is placed in a dry state or in the form of paste in the receptacle used for burning the teeth, and the latter are then placed on the mass.
During the burning process the metal fastening pins which may be of nickel or an alloy consisting principally of nickel of the teeth absorb carbon, and to some extent metal, from the mixture described. The effect of this absorption is to render the said pins soft, pliable and unoxidizable. The mixture cools very slowly after the burning process, and thus prevents cracking of the teeth. The pressure of the kaolin, kieselguhr and sand prevents adhesion of the metal particles to the porcelain mass of which the teeth are made and the fire-proof qualities of these ingredients render the same well adapted for the purposes of the burning process. One or the other of these ingredients may be omitted, and another fireproof substance substituted therefor.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is 1. A composition of matter for use in the burning of artificial teeth consisting of a mixture of a metal of high melting point saturated with carbon and kaolin kieselguhr and sand.
2. A composition of matter for use in the burning of artificial teeth consisting of a mixture of a nickel saturated with carbon and kaolin kieselguhr and sand.
