LOUIS B. HORVATH AND PAUL KOTRIU'CZ, 0F MILWAUKEE, VTISCONSIN.
CUSPIDOR.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, LoUIs B. HoRvA'rrI and PAUL Ko'rRucZ, subjects of the King of .l lungary, residing at Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Guspidors, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to cuspidors, and the object of our invention is to provide a cuspidor with simple and effective means for preventing the contents thereof from being spilled when the cuspidor is accidentally tilted or upset.
Another object of this invention is to provide a sheet metal cuspidor that is simple in construction, durable, easily manufactured and readily cleaned and maintained in a sanitary condition.
With these and such other objects as may hereinafter appear, the invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter specifically described and then claimed.
lsle't'erence will now be had to the drawing forn'iing a part of this specification,
wherein there is illustrated a vertical sec tional view of a cuspidor constructed in accordance with our invention.
Our cuspidor comprises a bottom section 1, an intermediate section 2 and a top section The bottom section 1 is substantially seiiiispherical and has the bottom thereof flattened, as at a and provided with an annular depressed portion adapted to form an annular supporting rim 5. The upper edges of the section 1. are beaded or reamed, as at 6 whereby the lower edges 7 of the section 2 can be easily soldered or otherwise connected to the upper edges of the section 1.
The section 2 is dome shaped and has the upper edges thereof bent outwardly, as at 8 to receive the lower curved edges 9 of the top section 3, this section being substantially semi-spherical with the upper edges thereof beaded or reamed, as at 10. The top section 3 is provided with an opening 11 surrounded by a flange 12 and the inner walls of said opening and said flange are threaded to receive an exteriorly threaded sleeve 13 adapt- Specification of Letters Patent.

Serial No. 542,508.
ed to project from the side of the top section 3. Screwed upon the sleeve 13 is a cap 14 provlded with a resilient washer 15 adapted to engage the outer end of the sleeve 13 and form a water and air tight connection between said cap and said sleeve. The washer 15 is preferably made of rubber.
Fitted upon the upper edges of the top section 3 by having the peripheral edges thereof bent to engage the upper edges of the section 3 is a flat circular plate 17, having a central circular opening 18. The edges of the plate 17 borderlng upon the opening 18 are depressed to form an annular seat 19 for the upper flanged edges 20 of a cylindrical spout 21. This spout is adapted to extend in proximity to the upper edges of the bottom section 1 and has the lower end thereof flared, as at 22.
With the edges of thesections 1, 2 and 3 and the plate 17 connected by solder or other material a water tight compartment is provided, both in the section 1 and in the section 3. When the cuspidor is tilted or accidentally upset the contents thereof will flow into the section 3 and surround the spout 21, and when the cuspidor is placed in an upright position the contents will immediately assume their normal position in the section 1. The opening 11 in the section 3 has been provided whereby said section can be thoroughly cleansed and such matter that might adhere to the inner sides of the section 3 removed either through the sleeve 13 or the spout 21.
The cuspidor is preferably made of sheet metal pressed or stamped to the desired shapes and then the parts thereof assembled as shown in the drawing.
Having now described our invention what we claim as new, is
A cuspidor comprising a bottom section, an intermediate dome shaped section having the lower edge thereof secured to the upper edge of said bottom section, a top section having the lower edge thereof secured to the upper edge of said intermediate section, said top section having the wall thereof provided with an opening, a sleeve mounted in said opening and projecting outwardly from the wall of said top section, a cap on the outer end of said sleeve, a washer located in said In testimony whereof We aflix our signatures in the presence ofwitnesses.
