Description
essere.
specification of "lettere Patent.
Application filed 'o'vcinher 11, i909. eriel No. 527,531.
To all whom fit may conce Be 1t known that l, CHAnnnsRosnnzwnie,
of Allegheny and State ot Pennsylvanie., have invented certain new end useful lmprovements in Nonlxplosive il-uns, of which the following is u, specicetion, reference being had therein to the e.ccompuny ing drawing.
rlhis invention relates to non-explosive oil cans, and the objects of my invention ure to provide the spout of a con with simple and effective means tor preventing u. flume, sparks or ignition metter 'from entering the spout and setting tire to or detonatingf thel contents ofA thecan, and to provide e spout that can be used in vconnection with various types of oil receptacles.
Further objects oi this provide the spout of e con with novel ineens fornormelly maintaining the seme in o closed position, thus preventing gases -@ind fumes from escaping from the con, and to uccomplish the shove results by o. construc- .tion that is simple, durable Aund inexpensive to munuiecture. y
These and such other objects es moy hereinafter appear are atteined by the novel construction, combination and errengement of parte that will be hereinafter described in detail and then claimed, und reference ivill now be had to the' drawing forming :i port of this specification, wherein there is illustrated a preferred embodiment ot my invention, hut the structurel elements thereof are susceptible to changes, variations end. modifications without departing' from the spirit ot the invention.
ln the drawing: Figure l is a side eleva.- tion oi an oil receptacle, partly broken away und partly in section, Fig. 2 is en enlarged plan of the upper end of the spout oli the receptacle, und Fig. 3 is similar viev.7 with the vulve of the spout removed. o
ln the accompanying drawing, the reference numeral l'denotes, by the Way of exemple., en oil can having e. bail 2, u bottoni hond grip 3, und fr detachable cup 4. ylhe een l adjacent to the hottom thereof is provided with un upwardly extending spout 5 which is enteriorly screvxr threaded, es et G invention ere toy to 'receive e. curved mouth piece 7, said mouth piece being screwed. upon the spout 5.
'The inner Wells olfL the spout 5 et the upper end thereof are provided with two ennulur horizontal inwardly projecting ribs 8v und i), the former providing en annuler seat for o.. wire screen or piece oit gauze l0, vvhile the letter forms u. seat for e circuler valve :idepted to close the upper end of the spout 5.A The vulve comprises e circuler plete or disk l1 having beveled edges adapted to snugly tit against the rib 9. The plete -11 is provided with en integral stem 12 located centrally of seid plate and extending to one edge thereof Where the stem is pivotnlly connected by u pin i3 to e, bifurcutnd lug 14 carried by the upper edge of the spout 5, the stem 12. fitting in the bifurcation of seid lug.
rlhe wire screen or piece of gauze l0 een beeesily bent und placed between the ribs l8 and t), these ribs confining the piece of wire gauze, which prevents smell particles of matter und even n flume from entering the spout 5, also serving tostrein the oil or liquid contained within the can l when.
poured troni the spout.,
The valve oit the spout is adapted to swing open when the.cun is tilted und allow the contents thereof to pass out, the vulve immediately closing when the een is placed in Van upright position, as shown in Fig. 1.
is the diameter of the valve is considera-bly lessthun the diameter of the mouth piece 7, seid valve een easily open and close. This vulve as heretofore stated prevents gases 'from escaping from the con, also preventing metter from entering 'the spout When the een is not in use. i
Having novv described my invention what l claim es new, is o ln n. nonexplosive 'oil can, the combine* tion with a can., of e spout carried thereby and communicating with the interior of said can, n curved mouth piece adapted to screw upon the upper end of said spout, horizon tel inwardly projecting annuler ribs carried by the inner side Walls ot' seid spout adje cent to the upper end thereof, e screen adapted to be supported by one ot' seid ribs, e circular vulve ot' e. less diuinetcr thun-seid spout adapted to' sont upon the other of said ribs, s 'stem carried centrally ot said valve too and projecting toward one side thereof, and In testimony whereof I :lxmy sgnnhn'e a? aperture lug csrretd oy the lpor end in the presence of two witnesses.
o sin( spou an a a e( o plvo u su v u s v y v port the stern of. sai valve Wherebgf7 Sagl (JHRLMS Rohl EHI' vulve can open and close by a tilting move- Witnesses: ment of said can, substantially as, und for MAX IT. SRoLovrlz, the purpose herein described. Kun. 1I. BUTLER.
