This invention relates to packages for containing liquid substances and particular- 1y to containers in which lubricating oils are sold.
lt is the principal object of the invention to provide an oilpackage of this character having a new and improved form of turnable pouring spout equipped with a valve which is adapted to openythus per-' mitting a free flow of oil, when the spout is swun intopouring positioman'd which is adaphed to close, so as to prevent the escape of oil from the container, when the spoutis in retracted position.
It is also an object of the invention to provide a simple form of valve tor-such a device which may be equipped with gaskets for forming-a perfect seal between the rotatable parts thereof.
The specific advantages-of the invention, and further objects thereof, will be made evident hereinafter.

This swingspout is very simple of construction, being comprised of only three parts, which are of extremely simple and rugged form, permitting them to be formed from lightweight sheet metal.

As shown in the Figs. l and a gasket 45 is placed between the top 4-.6 of the shell and the head of the cup 36 the head 47 being forced inwardly thereagainst when the projection 48 is riveted down. as indicated at 4.9 in Fig. l. The gasket 51 is of conical form and is placed between outwardly flared lower edge 52 of the cup 36 and the lower edge 53 of the member 35, which is similarly flared. It will be perceived that as cup 36 is forced downwardly upon the member 35, the gasket will be gripped as hereinbefore explained and. the pressure will also be brought to bear upon the gasket 51 due to the increased angularity of those portions of the members 35 and 36 between which the gasket 51 is placed. When the spout 40 is in the position shown in Fig. 3 the openings 39 and ll in the members and 36 are oppositely disposed so that the outlet of liquid through the pouring device is obstructed. When it is desired to pour from the container 38, the spout i0 may be swung either to the right or to the left into the extended position in which the openings 39 and a1 coincide and permit a free flow of liquid from the container.
The valves herein disclosed should be sufiiciently tight for all practical purposes when paraiiined as described, as the overlapping surfaces bet veen the valve openings are very broad. Furthermore, the conic". shape of the valve members provides a very rugged construction and a simplicity in form which contributes greatly to the cheapness of their manufacture.
I claim as my invention I 1. In a swingspout pouring device for a container, the combination of: a shell adapted to be secured to the top of a container;
an inverted cup rotatably mounted on said shell and pressurably held thereagainst: and a spout extending from said cup and secured against rotation relative thereto, the axis of rotation of said cup, when mounted on a container. lying in a vertical plane and in plane which is at an angle to a horizontal plane,
2-With a container, the combination of: a conoidal body extending outwardly from said container, said body having an opening communicating with the interior of said container; a cup fitting over said body, said cup having an opening therein adapted to coincide with said opening 111 said body, said cup having ts interior of conoidal form to correspond to said body and being of greater length than said body so that a space exists between the: top of said body and head of said cup; and means comprising an extension of said body passing through said head pressurably holding said cup against said body.
3. In a swingspout device for containers the combination of: a cup comprising a conical side wall having an opening therein and a head across the small end thereof; a pouring means upon the exterior of said cup and in communication with said opening a conical shell fitting within said cup, having an opening adapted'to coincide with said opening in said cup; and means for mounting said shell in an angular position upon a container so that said pouring means will swing through a plane inclined to the wall of said container upon which said device is mounted. 4. In a swingspout device for containers the combination of: a cup comprising a conical side wall having an opening therein and a head across the small end thereof; a

In a swingspout device for containers the combination of: a cup having an opening therein and ahead across the closed end thereof; a pouring means upon the exterior of said cup and in communication with said opening; a shell fitting within said cup; having an opening adapted to coincidewith said opening in said cup; and means for mounting said shell in an angular position upon a container so that said pouring means will swing through a plane inclined to the wall of said container upon which said device is mounted.
6. In a swingspout device for a container: a conoidal shell; a conoidal cup rotatably mounted on said shell and carrying a spout, said cup being adapted to. be turned from open to closed position'and vice versa relative to said shell; and means pressurably holding said cup inst said shell while said cup is turned from open to closed position relative to said shell, the axis ofsaid (up being inclined to both a horizontal plane set my hand at Los Angeles, California, this 2nd day of June, 1922. v
