SUPPORT FOR THE INTERNAL MOLDS OF HOLLOW CASTINGS.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Gnneon WEINBEER, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, residing at 69 Sulzbacherstrasse, Nuremberg, Bavaria, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Supports for the Internal Molds of Hollow Castings, of
which the following is a specification.
The present invention pertains to supports for the internal mold or core when it is desired to produce a hollow casting. Hitherto such supports, which are intended to remain embedded in the casting, were constructed as a rigid body, and as the distance between the internal and external molds varies with the different sizes of the castings, there is the disadvantage that a great variety of such supports is required. As, on the other hand, it is not possible to provide supports for all possible sizes that may be desired, it is necessary in each such case to specially construct .the suitable support, whereby much time and money are wasted.
The object of my invention is to remedy this drawback, which I accomplish by providing a support that can be readily taken apart, and in which a very simple piece only needs to be made up in various sizes, while the rest of the support is uniform for every size of casting to be formed.
The support forming the subject of my invention consists of two plates, of which each is centrally punched and the lateral edges of the holes are bent at a right angle to project from the plate. Over said projecting edges a staple shaped piece of metal is slipped, that tightly connects the two plates and holds them apart at a certain height which is to conform with the dis tance between the internal and external molds. It will be seen that owing to this construction, all that is necessary to provide for different sizes of castings is to have a variety of such staples, all of uniform cross section but different heights. The construction of a staple of a special size does not take much time, since it requires but the bending of a piece of metal.
To make my invention more clear the same drawing in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of my new support, in which the parts are shown assembled to be ready for use; Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the support showing the Specification of Letters Patent.

With reference to the drawing a, 6 denote equally sized metal plates centrally punched as at c. The lateral edges of said holes 0 aredbent at a right angle to the plates, as at e is a piece of metal bent in shape of a staple, and the free ends f of which are bent under a right angle toward one another, leaving a recess 9 between themselves. This piece is adapted to be tightly slipped over the projecting lateral edges of the holes 0 of the plates and to hold the latter apart at a certain height from one another.
When the support is properly placed into the mold, the core resting on the upper plate thereof, the metal cast into the mold will envelop the entire support and, through the recess g, fill the inner free space formed by the staple shaped piece 6.
While the plates or and b are all of uniform size, the staple shaped pieces 6 connect ing the two plates, can be made of various heights, but all of uniform cross section, so that when the support is to be used for a different size of casting, it is only necessary to exchange the staple for one of a larger height.
In Fig. 6 a modification is shown in which, instead of one, two such staples e are pro vided between the plates.
In Fig. 7 a second modification is shown in which, instead of flat plates, cylindrically curved ones are used to be available for cylindrical castings.
It is understood that the construction of the support may be modified in various ways without deviating from the spirit of my invention.
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. The herein described support for the internal mold or core of hollow castings, consisting of perforated parts, and a hollow perforated piece detachably connecting said parts together.
. 2. A support for the internal mold or core of hollow castings, comprising centrally perforated parts formed with projections around the perforations, and a perforated holes being bent to form projections, and staple-shaped metal pieces tightly but de taehably engaging said projections to con- 15 nect the plates with and hold the same apart from one another.
