BATH OR FLESI-I BRUSH ATTACHMENT FOR BATH-TUBS.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JACOB BOOTH, a citizen of the United States, resident of Reynoldsville, in the county of Jefferson and State of Pennsylvania, have made a certain new and useful Invention in Bath or Flesh Brush Attachments for Bath-Tubs; and I declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the saine, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the invention, reference being had to th-e accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

Figure 1 is a plan view of the invention showing the canvas cover partly torn away. Fig. 2 is a cross section of the invention. Fig. 3 is a detail view showing the shallower or surface corrugations of the bottom plate. Fig. 4t is a plan view partly broken away of a modiiication. Fig. 5 is a cross section of the same. Fig. G is a detail sectional view of one of the upright side strips.

The invention has relation to bath or flesh brushes and particularly an attachment device for bath tubs carrying a number of brushes, sponges, or other friction rubbers,

by means of which a person lying in the tub filled with water may conveniently scrub and wash his back, neck and feet while immersed in the water, for more effectual cleansing, all as hereinafter more particularly described.

ln the accompanying drawings illustrat ing the invention, the letters a, o, designate two side frame bars of metal having riveted or otherwise secured thereto transverse frame bars o, o, also of metal, a longitudinally corrugated metal bottom plate o being riveted or otherwise secured to said frame bars, the transverse bars and bottom plate being transversely arched to correspond with the formation of the tub bottom against which the transverse frame bars are designed to neatly fit. A covering CZ of can vas or other suitable material is secured over the frame bars and bottom plate and carries a plurality of friction rubbing devices Z,Z, such as Sponges, strips of cloth, or other suitable rubbing devices, which are secured to the canvas covering by stitches or in other suitable manner, being located so as to lie beneath the back of the person lying in the tub having my invent-ion applied thereto.

A head band f having frame bars f', f', transversely arched to correspond with the format-.ion of the head of the tub and also formed preferably of metal is secured to the bottom part already described by means of angle irons g, g, having rivet connect-ion therewith or other suitable connection, said head band being also covered with the same piece of canvas covering the body of the device already described said canvas having edge straps a, 7n, buttoned at 7c', s, underneath said body part in a detachable manner.

A head block 7L preferably formed of sheet metal bent into raised forni is secured to the frame bars f, f of the head band in any suitable manner and is covered with canvas or other suitable material t, having brushes or other friction rubbing devices secured thereto in position to conveniently reach the back of the neck of the tub occupant.

A foot block or piece Z also formed preferably of sheet met-al bent into raised form is secured to the tail end of the bottom or body part already described in any suitable manner and is provided also with a canvas or other cloth covering bearing brushes m, m, in convenient reach of the feet of the tub occupant. A fringed string n `may be secured to the tail end of the body part adjacent to the foot block and is conveniently secured to the spigot above in a taut manner for brushing and washing between the toes.

A modified form of the invention is shown in Figs. 4, 5 and 6 of the drawing, wherein the bottom or body part of the inventionis formed of longitudinal wooden frame bars o, o, and transverse wooden frame bars o', o, secured together in a latticed manner, the whole being covered with canvas as before stated for the main form of the invention, and held down in the tub by means of upright side strips 29, p, engaging at their upn per ends beneath the side bars of the tub, as shown at p, 7o', and secured to said body part at r, r. The side strips are preferably formed each of a tubular main part s, xed to a bottom angle iron s of the body part, and having telescoping engagement with an upper iron t, bent to fit under the side bars of the tub, a cam lever t', being employed to secure the upper iron and the tubular main part together in an adjustable manner, whereby the parts may be readily applied to the tub, and made to tit tubs of different sizes or depths. In this modified form of the invention, the means for washing the back of the neck, including the head band f carrying the head block and rubbing devices and the means for washing the feet including the foot block carrying the rubbing devices, as also the fringed string referred to are included, as well as in the main form of the invention.

A convenient device for the purpose in view is thus provided, such as may be readily applied to any tub and as readily removed therefrom.

In some cases the metal frame bars of the main form of my invention may be made of telescoping or eXtensible sections u, u, as shown in Fig. 6 of the drawings, a clamp or cam lever u being employed for securing the sections in position as adjusted to fit tubs of different sizes. In this main form of the invention also the deeper longitudinal ribs or corrug'ations of the metal bottom may have shallower corrugations or indentations o therein, as shown in Fig. 3.

I-Iaving thus described by invention, what I claim. as new .and desire to secure by Letters Patent is l. An attachment for bath tubs comprising a longitudinally corrugated transversely arched metal bottom plate carrying friction rubbing` devices.

2. An attachment for bath tubs comprising a metal bottom plate adapted to lit loosely in the bottom of the tub, and a detachable cloth covering for said bottom plate carrying friction rubbing devices and having detachable edge strap connections with said bottom plate.

3. An attachment for bath tubscomprising a longitudinally corrugated transversely arched metal bottom plate adapted to fit loosely in the bottom of the tub, and a detachable cloth covering for said bottom plate carrying friction rubbing devices and having detachable edge strap connections with said bottom plate.

4.. An attachment for bath tubs, including a frame adapted to fit in the bottom of the tub, said frame having a cloth covering carrying friction rubbing devices, and a head block carrying friction rubbing devices.

5. An attachment for bath tubs, including a frame adapted to fit in the bottom of the tub, said frame having a cloth covering carrying friction rubbing devices, a head band carrying a head block provided with friction rubbing devices, and a foot block also provided with friction rubbing devices.

6. An attachment for bath tubs including a skeleton form frame having a detachable canvas covering provided with friction rubbing devices, a head band carrying a head block provided with friction rubbing devices, and a foot block also carrying friction rubbing devices.

7 An attachment for bath tubs comprising a rigid transversely arched bottom capable of fitting loosely but neatly in the bottom of the tub and having a rough superficies, in combination with a detachable cloth cover* ing for the same having also a rough superticies for friction rubbing.

8. An attachment for bath tubs comprising aV rigid transversely arched metal bottom capable of fitting loosely but neatly in the bottom of the tub and having a rough corrugated superficies, in combination with a detachable cloth covering for the same having also a rough superficies for friction rubbing.
