ONE-HALF TO FRIEDRICH ADJUSTABLE men'r-nnacxnr m cnms'mas TREES.
Specification of Letters Patent. Application filed April s, 1910. Serial No, 554,120.
in adjustable lamp brackets, the object being to provide an adjustable lamp bracket that is particularly adapted for application to Christmas trees but not entirely limited to such use.
I will now proceed to describe my invention in detail the novel features of which I will finally claim, reference bein hadvto the accompanying drawing formlng part hereof, wherein: A
Figure 1 is a top plan view of my improved lamp bracket, partl .in section; Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof Fig. 3 is an enlarged elevation of the adjustable band member of the bracket; Fig. 4 is an enlarged vertical sectional detail view of one of the adjustable sockets which form part of my invention; and Fig. 5 is an enlarged sectional detail view taken on a line a-a in Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawing 1 indicates an adjustable band, preferably of metal, provided with openings 2, at one end thereof and a hook 3 at the other end thereof. The hook 3 is adapted to take into the openings 2 in order that the band can be made smaller or larger. A handle 4 is provided to aid in adjusting the band 1 to the trunk of a Christmas tree or other similar support.
Upon the band 1,1 slidably mount a plurality of sockets 5 which are adapted to support a releasable arm 6, which consists of a tubular member 7 carrying a tubular member 8. The tubular member 8 is adapted to slide upon the member in order that the arm 6 can be lengthened or shortened. The members 7 and 8 are referably square in cross-section as shown 1n Fig. 5.
- To adapt the arm 6 for releasable engagement with a socket 5, I provide the member 7 thereof with a square plug 9, which is adapted. to pass into the sa1d socket 5.
To adapt the sockets 5 for slidable engagement with the band 1, I provide each of said sockets with a loop 10 whereby a space 11 (see Fig. 4) is provided through w ich the band .1 can pass.
To hold the sockets 5 on any portion of the band 1, I provide each of said loops 10 with a sprin clamp 12, which at its upper end is secure to the loop 10 as at 13. The free end of the clamp 12 passes through an opening adjacent the bottom of the loop 10 as shown in Fig. 1.
In this instance, I have illustrated the arm 6 as supporting a slidably mounted sleeve 14 supportin a candle 15. Any other form of lamp or il uminating device may be used, the said lamp being supported by a sleeve similar to the sleeve 14, or by square eyes Patented July 19, 1910.
such as are illustrated in a copendln appli- I cation for patent for candelabra file by me on April 8, 1910, Serial No. 554,121.
To apply the bracket to the trunk of a Christmas tree, for instance, the band 1 is sprung open and passed around the trunk of the tree. After having passed the band.
1 around the trunk the sockets 5 and arms carried thereby may be moved to a desired osition. After the sockets and arms have een positioned the hook 3 can be caused to enter any one of, the openings 2, that is, after the band has been pulled taut. The
arms 6 may be shortened or lengthened to I position the lighting device or lamp where desired.
Having now described I claim and desire to Patent is:
1. A lamp bracket consisting of an adustable band, a plurality of socketscarriedy said band, a spring clamp carried by each of said sockets, and an arm releasably carried by said sockets, adapted to hold a lamp.
2. A lamp bracket consistin of a band provided at one end thereof wit a plurality of openings, a hook carried by the other end of said band, adapted to take into said openings, a plurality of sockets slidably mounted on said band, a spring clamp carried by secure by Letters 'each of said sockets, and an arm releasably carried by said sockets adapted to hold a lamp. 4 r
3. A lamp bracket consisting of an ad- 'ustable' band, a plurality of sockets carried y said band, a spring clamp carried by my invention, what each of said sockets, an arm releasably carried said scpkets, adapted to hold a lamp the free end of the dam passin through said arm consisting of a fixed member an an opening adjacent the ottom o the loo 10 a slidable member carried thereby. Signed at New York city, NJ Y., this 7t 4. A lamp bracket consisting of an adday of April, 1910. 5 'ustable band, a plurality of sockets carried Y GOTTFRIED J. BERNAU.
a y said band, a loop carried by each of said Witnesses:
sockets adapted to surround theband, and AUGUST SOHEU'FELE,
a spring. clampcarried by each of said loops, ESTELLE O. HAMBURGER.
