Patented July 19, 19110 Original application filed November 12,1907, Serial No. 401,831. Divided and this application filed July 27, 1908, Serial No. 445,589. Renewed February 10, 1910. Serial No. 543,189.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD S. S'rmrsox,
of Hopedale, in the county of Worcester,
State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shuttles. of which the following is a specification.
The improved shuttle which constitutes the present invention is particularly intend ed for use in the automatic weft-replenis hing loom described in application for United States Letters Patent, Serial No. l01,83l,
tiled November'lil, 1907, of which the pres- The improved shuttle is. illustrated in the" accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a plan view oi the end of: theshuttle which is equipped with the weftcarrier ja'w:'-;. Fig. 2.15 a longitudinal vertical section of the same end of the shuttle.
Fig. 3 is aperspective'view of the shuttleabutment against'which the shuttle placer acts;
The shuttle B is provided with the usual resilient weft-carrier holding jaws 11,. The shuttle has an abutment J which is adapted to be encountered by the shuttle placer. This abutment is located wholly within the shuttle chamber and has a vertical face (I which extends the entire width of the shuttle chamber. The abutment. is part of a piece part of the sa'me extending beyond the outer boundaries of the shuttle. Beneath the abut-' mcnt proper there is a horizontal ledge c and a vertical wall f, which is located between the shuttle jaws (1 and nearer the middle of the shuttle than the face (5' of the abutment. The wall f is close to the butt end of the weft-carrier held by the jaws. This wall is distant from the abutment taco to the extent of the ledge e, thus affording a space between the abutment face and the butt end of the weft-carrier for the action of the shuttle placer. mcnt allows for such movement of the lay as takes place durina the action of the shuttlc-placer.
- 1. A shuttle for an automatic weft-replenishing loom having an interior abutment adapted to be cm-ountcrcd by a shuttle place-r, said abulnu-ut extending -rosswise of the shuttlc-chambor and substantially the full 'width of said chamlaer;
The width of the abut-- ishing loom, having \rvt'twar rier holding u v Jaws at one end and interior abutmentadapted to be encountered by a shuttle placcr and a vertical wall between the shuttle Jaws,
said wall being nearer the middle of the" shuttle than the abutment. I
