Be it known that l, Bnrnmrim h. lilo GEHNESS, a citizen of the United States, residing at'Saundersville, in the county of Worcester and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful improvements in ld illing-Depressors for Weft-Beplenis'ning Looms, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to that class of weft replenishing looms which have a filling ole-- rector or feeler which is located on the magazine end of the loom, on the lOOlnsldQ or end, and comprises a teeler slide which feels through an opening in the front wall of the shuttle, and engages with the filling on the bobbin or filling carrier in the shuttle on every second forward n'iovement of the lay.
it has been found in practice that when a shuttle has entered the siationary shuttle the forward movement of the lay and the filling detector or feelcr slide is entering; the opening in the front wall of the shuttle to engage with the filling on the bobbin that the filling which passes from the shuttle to the fahi' may take its position in front of or over me opening in the shuttle, and the filling detector or 'i'eeler slide, on entering said opening, is liable to accidentally break or sever the filling thread.
The object of my invention is to prevent the filling detector or feeler slide from each dentally breaking the filling threaci in the running shuttle, in the manner above described.

On the breast beam 2 is the boil 14 for the filling fork slide 15, which carries the tilling fork lih-which is ailapled to he engaged by the filling 9 in the irontof the grate 17, in the usual way. i

I will now (lescriho-iny improvements.

The depressor i9 is held in its lowered position, shown in Fig. 3, by gra ity, and has on its upper edge a side lug or projection 19 which rests upon the filling fork slitle 15. The lower and rearwarclly extending portion of the plate 19 is made inclineol at 19", and said portion 19 is aciapted to engage the filling thread i) on the forward inovement of the lay, to move downwardly, or depress said filling thread, until it takes a position below the lower edge of the plate 19, as shown in Figs. 1 and 3.
The depression of the filling thread 9' on the forward movement of the lay, by the engagement of the depressor 19 therewith, causes the filling thread to move from the position shown by broken lines in Fig. 1, to the position shown by full lines in said figure, so as to extend below, or clear the I opening 8 in the front shuttle wall, and
leave a clear space for the entrance of the filling detector or feeler slide 11 through said opening, to engage the filling on the bobbin. i
I have shown in the drawing and described herein my improvements in filling depressor combined with a weft replenishing loom, and more particularly with a shuttle having an opening through the front wall thereof for the entrance of a filling detector or feeler slide, but it will be understood that I do not limit my invention to the use of my filling depressor or weft replenishing looms, as the same may be used on ordinary looms, which have a side filling fork stop motion, and in connection with ordinary shuttles, without any opening through the wall thereof for the entrance of a filling detector or feeler.
My filling depressor will act to engage and move downwardly the filling thread,
and bring it nearer the lower ends of the tines of the filling fork, so that on the forward movement of the lay,'the tines or lower ends of the filling fork will be sure to be engaged and tilted by the filling.
It will be understood that the details of Construction of my improvements may be varied if desired. The filling depressor may be mounted on the breast beam, instead of on the filling fork slide, or on some other part of the loom.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is In a weft replenishing loom having a filling detector located at the magazine end of the loom to feel through an opening in the front wall of the shuttle and engage the filling on the bobbin therein, a filling depressor, pivotally mounted on some part of the loom at the magazine end of the loom,
and providedwith a curved or inclined engaging end to engage and pass over .the filling on the forward movement of the lay, and depress said filling below the topening in the front wall of the shuttle, and leave a clear space for the entrance of the filling detector or feeler through said opening.
